Congrats to those accepted as a midyear! Any of you know what you’ll do for the fall semester? Also, do we only have to pay tuition for half the year?
Yes, you only pay tuition for the semester you attend, and the financial aid package/letter will break that down so you can see your costs and aid for Spring, 2017 only. We visited campus recently and our tour guide was a mid-year student; she loved the experience and said the midyear students find it much easier to develop close friendships and they live together in the nicest dorms on campus. We were able to go inside the dorm (but not see inside an actual room), and each floor has a community kitchen plus multiple study areas with floor-to-ceiling windows. There are spiral staircases to get from one floor to the next, along with elevators, and the building has its own fitness center plus a dunkin donuts in the lower level. Our tour guide said that once midyear students arrive in January, it makes no difference at all anymore when you started. She used her semester to do an internship at a school, and those connections enabled her to continue working at the school while she pursues an education major at Brandeis. There is also a full, multi-day orientation period for the mid-year students before the rest of the campus returns from break.
My niece was accepted as a midyear, and just visited campus today; her understanding is consistent with what @collegeparent16 reports–they bond together in a nice dorm when they arrive, and maintain that connection, but they are considered just part of the school right away. She hasn’t decided yet, but I’m pulling for Brandeis over her other option.
