I’m not sure if I should apply to Brandeis. I was wondering if anyone that goes there could tell me about the students.
Thanks!
Brandeis U is in Waltham MA, a suburb. It’s a medium sized school and is a Jewish University. Brandeis students have a rep of being “nerdy” and very academic, there is little partying. There are a couple frats and sororities but it’s not very big there. Sports are not big either. Thus, a typical “Brandeis University” student is Jewish and very focused on academics. It’s a really great school though!
@rebecca62 I’m actually Jewish not into parties, so that’s awesome!
Do you think there are hippy-ish types there? I’m really into the outdoors and healthy food. I’m not into drugs, though.
Do you have any personal experience with Brandeis?
I live in a suburb nearby to Brandeis and have family who have went there. Brandeis I think has a lot of different types of students. I definitely think there are some hippyish types, although a Jewish school it really is not too Jappy. My sister goes to syracuse which happens to be very jewish but extremely Jappy. I’ve been on the Brandeis campus with my temple and know some ppl from camp that went and they are pretty hippy/artsy! I wouldn’t say the drug scene is very big there. Hope this helps.
@rebecca62 Thank you, that was very helpful
My son is a sophomore and loves it. The academics have been fabulous and he’s also heavily involved in music, theater, and volunteering with the school’s EMT service. My son didn’t have a typical (whatever that is) Jewish upbringing - I’m not Jewish, and although my husband is, he wasn’t that into it so our son didn’t go to temple or have a Bar Mitzvah. Despite this, he’s been on a Birthright trip and had a summer internship in Israel as well. Everyone has been extremely friendly and helpful. He has a hippy-type side and fits in well. When he was deciding where to go, it came down to Hampshire or Brandeis. (Other schools he chose not to attend included BU, Wesleyan, Northeastern, and a couple of UMass schools).
@Awesomekidsmom Thanks so much! I think I will apply
