Hi, all - My D is considering applying to Brandeis with the intent of studying for a B.A. in theater, with a focus on acting. If anyone has any insight on their program I would appreciate your knowledge/thoughts. There has been some indication on CC that the undergraduate program has suffered in the past few years as a result of more emphasis on the MFA program, or maybe something else - it really isn't very clear. Anyone with the inside scoop (or really any information at all!) - please share.

Thanks in advance.

OTM, D was very interested in Brandeis, visited and interviewed with the head of Performing Arts dept there. She left with the impression that they are discontinuing their MFA (for better or worse). He basically convinced her not to apply-- not because the dept. isn’t good, but because it is more focused on theory and history of theater, less on acting as an art. I think Brandeis would be great for someone who wanted a double major in Theater and…philosophy, or history, or even music. I’d definitely suggest that an acting major visit and talk to other actors, to see if it’s a fit. It’s a great school, not right for D but maybe for your D!
