Brandeis Transfer Student

I am planning to transfer to Brandeis next fall. I am a freshman at a four year college. My finals are over and I have a 4.0 GPA. I am also a writer for my college newspaper and have written every other week. I am also the first year residential council president. Currently doing volunteer for Obama 2012. Recently I did a fund raising and raised some money to feed the hungry around the world. My major achievement this summer was writing against racial discrimination in my college and also accused the college of not employing black professors. Currently the college has set up a committee to stop racism and employ more black professors. And I have a nomination for Martin Luther King Jr prize for those college students who showed Luther-like leadership in stopping injustice in the community. I took classes in Biology, Chemistry, Calculus and Honors Philosophy this semester. I want to transfer because my college does not offer a biology-chemistry program and I love both classes. So I am thinking Brandeis is a good option. i am applying for FinAid. Do you think i have a chance. What is the acceptance rate for transfer students?

*I want to transfer because my college does not offer a biology-chemistry program and I love both classes. So I am thinking Brandeis is a good option. i am applying for FinAid. *

??? Your school doesn’t have bio and chem? or do you mean biochem? or what?

Since many schools do not give great aid to transfers, make sure that you do not cut ties with your current school until you see your aid package from Brandeis.

Since you only have one semester of grades, will Brandeis need your SAT scores and HS GPA? If so, what are they?

Yes i want something like Biochem and my Biology prof is from Brandeis and he told me they have a good program there. I will be taking SAT this January. My high school GPA is 3.84.

The acceptance rate for transfers was 46% last year. http://www.brandeis.edu/institutionalresearch/pdfs/CDS2010_2011_final.pdf</a> (section D) They require your HS and college info and recommend an interview.

Thanks a lot @Erin’s Dad. Do they look more on college work or on HS work?

Depends on the school’s policy. However, think about it. You’re applying with only ONE semester of work complete…what, like, 16 credits??? With that few credits, they’re likely going to strongly consider your HS stats.

Yeah, 16 credits

That 46% acceptance rate is potentially misleading, because many schools that are “need blind” for freshmen are “need aware” for transfers.

^ It seems that is the case for Brandeis. [The Brandeis Hoot Admissions not need-blind for all students](The Brandeis Hoot – Archive » Admissions not need-blind for all students)
