Brandeis v Tufts?

My D was admitted RD to both. Money is the same. Her major is Bio. They appear similar from what I’ve read (mid size, research, quirky, LAC feel). Any pro/con advice, insight from students, etc?

I have had family members attend both. Tufts has higher rankings. Although, of the people I asked, Brandeis felt most comfortable. So many wonderful clubs to get involved with and Academics are quite strong. Two great schools, congrats for getting in…

Certainly can’t go wrong with either one, both have strong science departments and overall academics. IMO there is a slightly different vibe between the two, so recommend visiting both to see where she thinks she would feel more comfortable.

last Spring, when our family was starting looking at colleges for D1; we happened to visit both campuses on an absolutely beautiful day. There was a great warmth in the air, sunshine, the first great “smell” of potential summer events all around.

We toured Tufts on this magnificent day and wondered where were the students. The quad was empty – the library however… full.

So not saying that academic priorities at Tufts are not greater than Brandeis (or visa versa), but our family kind of wondered if that meant on this perfect day, perhaps there is Too great an emphasis at Tufts or as D pointed out, maybe too much intesity.

that, and the worlds most boring info session at Tufts caused D not to even bother to apply.

Although, both fabulous schools and your student should be thrilled to have this dilemma

I was also accepted to both Tufts & Brandeis, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to go to Tufts next year. Academics, from what I’ve read, are comparable (although Tufts is known as being particularly strong in the major I’m considering) - in terms of location and campus setting, though, Tufts wins for me hands down. Tufts has Davis Square which is right on the red line, and the campus is beautiful - Brandeis also has transportation into Boston, but it’s much easier to just hop on the T. The community at Tufts also seems more outgoing and open - I’m in the Facebook groups for both Tufts and Brandeis, and the Tufts group is far more active with people trying to get to know each other and showing their Jumbo pride; the Brandeis group, on the other hand, is pretty dead. It’s probably not the most accurate measure of a school’s overall community, but for me it’s been one of the deciding factors influencing where I want to go.

I like both schools. I really do. Sometimes kids can get lost in the shuffle. I feel that at Brandeis students can shine and stand out a lot more.
