So… I got accepted by Lehigh and Brandeis… And I think I probably will end up choosing between these two… As an international student from Asia, I’m interested in Computer Science, Economics and business…
Can any of you give me some ideas? thanks a lot

First off congrats! I was just accepted to Brandeis as well and while i’m still waiting to hear from a bunch more schools, it and McGill (accepted too) are probably what my decision will come down to. I did visit lehigh though and have some friends their/going their next year- (so i am very familiar with the school) I just wanted to be in or closer to a city.

Brandeis is definitely more prestigious and better job/grad school stats. However, the quality of the education / professors is pretty equal. I can’t say I know which has a better business program though for undergrad- I just know lehigh is more known for it’s engineering.

Brandeis also has a much better location. Bethlehem is basically ****. But, lehigh’s actual campus is much more aesthetically pleasing. So I guess it depends where you plan on spending most of your time and what matters more to you.

For most, lehigh’s social life trumps Brandeis’s. There is always a party at lehigh, and while Brandeis students aren’t anti social to any extent, I don’t think the nightlife and certainly not Greek life is as active. Both have tons of clubs/student involvement opportunities ect.

Again, this is very subjective- but I think being that you are an international student, you would feel more comfortable at Brandeis since it has tons of them and the student body in general comes off as a bit more welcoming / open.

Overall, I’d say Brandeis- better school and better location= more and greater opportunities and higher quality of life… Best of luck! And if you have any McGill vs Brandeis suggestion please let me know!

There are tons of international students from Asia at Brandeis. Did you get in through the Gateway Scholars program or are you regular admit?

I know our economics program is very strong. The professor of the intro to econ class, Prof. Coiner, is popular and his sections always fill up first. I don’t know too much about the business program, but it’s the only major that you have to apply for, so we must be doing something right. And I recall seeing some signs about our MA in International Finance being first in the US, so if you’re interested in that area, you’ll probably have the same professors and such.

I know a lot more about CS since I’m a major. The first few intro courses are very large; people either take them to try out the major or to fulfill a requirement. After that, the classes get substantially smaller. The professors are very nice and extremely knowledgeable. If you want to go for the BS, it’s rather hefty; I recommend taking stats or calculus early on if you haven’t tested out and doing a math minor with it.

I’ve never heard of Lehigh before this thread to be honest, so I don’t know too much about it, but I’d assume that Brandeis has more prestige attached to it. Greek life does exist on campus–it’s around the time of year where people are pledging–and people wear their letters all of the time.

As for Brandeis versus McGill…I assume financial aid isn’t an issue or you’re Canadian? Because McGill can be rather stingy with aid to non-Canadian students (insert rage). Academically, they’re about the same; McGill is in a better location but Brandeis has more opportunities to be involved. I’d say if you don’t know what you’re majoring in or you can’t speak French decently, go for Brandeis. Otherwise, it might come down to a campus visit. Although, housing in Montreal is way more expensive and I don’t remember how much housing they allocate to students.
