hey all,
Does anybody know where Brandeis University stands in terms of its reputation? Is it considered a high level University?

It is a very good school, but not old like an ivy so it may not have the prestige of a similar school. The school has a large Jewish population, but is accepting of people from other culutres/religons.

but the thing is, brandeis's acceptance rates stand at ~40%. Doesn't this reduce its reputation?

Yes, Brandeis is considered a "high level" or "more selective" university. It has many excellent undergraduate programs and students who go there love it. The student population is approx 50% Jewish, not overwhelmingly so, and the administration is dedicated to diversity. There are 3 chapels, Jewish, Protestant, and Catholic built so that no one casts a shadow on the others. Take a look at the website!

Yes, Brandeis's acceptance rate is 40%, but this is understandable because it is a small school, and not a "brand name" one that will attract alot of people who virtually have no chance at being accepted, but apply 'for the hell of it'. I would say that most people who apply to Barnard are reasonably qualified and do want to go. Plus if you look at their average SAT score, a 1360, that is equivalent to that of many top schools. I don't think judging a school by its acceptance rate is a great idea.

I see. Also, do Brandeis students have opportunities to later on study at Harvard?

What do you mean? As a graduate student? I see no reason why attending Barnard undergrad would keep you out of Harvard grad.

O so I still have a good chance being accepted into Harvard garduate school If go to barndeis? (after being rejected from harvard undergarduate school)

Well, you'd have to do very well, but thats because its Harvard.

Ok. Can I have your honest word though? Do you truly beleive/know that Brandeis has a good enaugh reputation as a respectable and world class university?

What I mean is, even though it's not an Ivy, will an Ivy put brandeis to shame?

You can get into great grad schools from just about any good undergrad. It's all about what you do during your time there.

LOL

brandeis: not a whole lot of normal people know it, but does it matter? the EDUCATED ones know it, the harvard adcoms know it.

reputation-wise: when u mention brandeis, no one will comment :"WOW, U R SUCH A GENIUS!", but they will think u r a good student.........

yea, but does the elite respect brandeis?
How do Harvard faculty and Deans view it?

harvard faculties will consider it as one of the BEST universities in US, believe me. they will. as lot of harvard faculties attended schools that aren't in top 50............................

only elitist people (some) on CC will consider it as a second tier school. brandeis is one of the BEST schools........in US. how many school are there in US? THOUSANDS! brandeis is top 50!!!!!!!!!!!!
50/5000 =1% TOP 1%------------>elite
HAVE FUN AT BRANDEIS AND THANK ME LATER:)

I'm attending Brandeis in the fall, and I'm in love with it. (No, I'm not even Jewish)
Small enough so that you're not an anonymous social security number, big enough so that you still meet new people all the time. The students who go there seem very friendly and energetic. Stellar academics- kick butt sciences, wide range of humanities, not a jock party school but there's tons to do, lively intellectual student body comprised of people who genuinely love academics, awesome professors, plethora of clubs/organizations, frat scene non existent (fraternities... what's that?) and a campus that is just one big hill with a random castle in the middle. Twenty-thirty minutes away from Boston/Cambridge<---major selling point.

I also got into GW, Trinity, and Bucknell. All of them are far too preppy for me, and I'm thrilled with my choice because I will not be compromising on any of the things I wanted in a college (although I hear the food at 'Deis isnt too great).

ok, here's a tough question:

If i get into both harvard and Brandeis, which do you recomend that i choose?

obviously harvard are you insane lol

You just said you were rejected from undergrad. Anyway that decision has to be up to you and your personal preferences - they're very different.

no i didn't say I was rejected (g-d forbid)
I posed it as a possibility.
