Break down of cost and finaid?

this is for all sdsu students: what is the estimate of attending sdsu and dorming?

How much finaid should i expect if my efc is 0?

I really want to attend sdsu and just trying to see if i can really afford it. i plan on dorming at the zura double hall. (doubles are cheaper than singles, right?).

I already have 10 units completed through cc during hs and am taking another 6 this semester. also, plan on taking summer school at a cc. so hopefully i can complete half my ge entering fresh yr (fall 07).

ok here is my finaid report:

pell: 2025
fseog: 500
sug: 1800

work study: 2000
loans: 2679

total: 8964
cost: 8965

still waiting for calgrant. but what i want to know is why they only gave me so little pell grant when my efc was 0. will applying for work study and loans reduce my grants?

Honestly - get student loans. Do whatever it takes, it will be well worth your benefit. You only live once right?

I have to second what savedbythebell7 just said. I'm going to loan approximately 20.000$/year to finance my studies, but I have no doubts it's worth it!

i just got my finaid package right now...

my efc is ~14,000

Estimated Subsidized Federal Direct Student Loan: $1732 for Fall and $1733 for Spring

Estimated Federal Direct Parent Loan: $7232 for Fall and $7233 for Spring

Total= $8964 for Fall and $8966 for Spring---> $17,930 a year in loans which is ALL of the tuition in loans

This just reminded me that I have to send in my Fafsa....

Were those numbers for an instate student?

yes, i am from california.

so me being out of state? would you figure it will nearly double those of the instate numbers?

i think tuition and maybe dorm will be more.

if your efc = 0 then you will probably get the same grants except cal grant since your not a california resident.

Thank you =) What year are you anyways? Just curious

im currently a senior so ill be a incoming frosh next fall.

You are getting the max. Pell grant max is 2025. If you get the cal grant A, try and ask to get the cal grant B, A only helps you with tuition while B helps you with tuition and gives you an additional $700. But if you accept the cal grant, it will cancel your SUG grant. Tuition by next fall should be about $1900-$2000 or so. If I was you, work as much as you can and save as much as you can. Dorms cost about 10k including food, so you need to make some extra money and get a job asap when you get here. Not to mention gas, books, going out etc. Get a loan and enjoy your young life as a college student, it will be one of the best times in your life. You can pay it off later when you get a real job.

And apply for scholarships, look into sdsu.edu and look up the scholarships available. Apply for even the most minimal awards and research the criteria asap to get you an idea what you'll have to do. Generally, one essay is good enough for most apps.

nebraskagirl, tuition fees for out of state students is not pretty; just thought I'd let you know if you didn't already.

i got cal grant b which is great because it did not decrease my sug but it took away some federal grant.

isnt tuition already like 3k, will the csu raise hikes make it go up more?

another question i hard is: how's the workstudy at sdsu?
also, i was at sdsu scholarship site and didnt find any for incoming freshman?

They will adjust your grants. Cal Grant B takes away most of your SUG but you may get some I don't remember. Your Pell should not be altered. I didn't get any FSEOG at SDSU but I did get it at my JC. Tuition for 1 school year (2 semesters) is close to $4K/Year ($1,800 this semester I think) not including books and parking ($135 for parking ticket).

Workstudy I don't know what that is, I opted not to do it. Just get a part time job that pays $10/hr or more. Keep checking the scholarships, they open up all throughout the year.
