Breaking an 8-year med agreement?

Hi,

This might be a silly question, but does anyone know what happens if for some reason after completing undergrad, a person accepted to an 8-year program decides to not become a physician....or to apply to a different med school? I suppose people who apply to those programs are really sure about their future, but I'm just speculating..

I'm a rising senior, so I'm trying to learn as much as possible about these programs. Most of the 8-year websites don't discuss this issue.

Thanks.

Most BS/MD programs, when you decide to apply out, take away your guaranteed seat.

Some BS/DO program, however, let you keep the seat even if you try to apply out.

If you decide you don’t want to be a physician, then you just drop out, and obviously, your seat is forfeit.

And yea, I know a few people who applied out of BS/MD programs; even one guy who dropped out to be a Dentist.
