Breaking Early Decision due to Financial Aid Package

Plugging in Salem State College (as example) was MUCH better for pricing, and netted out a 0 loan for the parents (just her Stafford loan) - And since I (and wife) graduated from Salem (with 3 degrees between us) and my In Laws graduated there… maybe theres a ‘legacy’ type aid we get? lol

@jtolpin, see this link for a Salem State U legacy scholarship.

Thank you very much. FYI - she did not go for ED, just regular admittance.

That is good, I’m sure she will find a school that she will be happy at and won’t break the bank.

There are lots of possible colleges between BU and Salem, some of which meet 100% need.
If she likes Boston, there’s Simmons, for instance, a terrific women’s college right at the center of things in town.
In the region, there’s Wheaton(MA, not IL), Clark, Colby… (three different levels of selectivity).
Connecticut College and Trinity College, CT both meet full need (deadlines may be passed.) Hamilton or Colgate also meet need.
Dickinson is another one, or Muhlenberg, or Skidmore, and I know they have later deadlines.
If she has high stats (SAT 2100) she can apply to Temple and Honors College.

thanks. she applied to:

Lesley
BU
BC
Salem State
UMass Lowell
UMass Amherst
Stonehill

SATs were only in the 1700’s IIRC. High extra curriculars (sp) including 4 yrs of band, track (captain), NHS…

She should definitely apply to Simmons, Wheaton, Clark, and Muhlenberg. MCLA perhaps?
With her SAT score, she’d need a “hook” (something colleges really, really want - ie., recruited athlete) to get into BU or BC.

That’s a misnomer “easier to get in”. The reason acceptance stats are higher for ED js because most of the kids applying then are high stats kids! You have many “bottom of the barrel” (academically) kids applying RD hence the lower stats. Don’t misread the stats!
