My alumni friends agree that this has to be a joke. UChicago, “where fun goes to die”, is ranked even higher than Swarthmore.

The interpretation at the Daily Beast is a bit misleading. We may be most satisfied after college, BUT SWATTIES ARE NOT THE HAPPIEST WHILE AT SWARTHMORE. But we were happy. It’s complicated.

I have to agree with fhimas here. I think the title of this thread is meant to be sarcastic (though I could be wrong). The state of college students in the U.S. would truly be sad if Swarthmore is actually the 8th happiest school in the nation. Which isn’t to say that Swarthmore is a “sad” place. But also, the “where fun goes to die” slogan associated to UChicago is an exaggeration and something that students there take pride in. I would say that this ranking is as reliable as regarding SEPTA as “the best large transit system in North America.”
