To my complete surprise, I was selected for the bridge program despite being given provisional acceptance and having my app fee waived. I have a 3.77 GPA, 1310 SAT (M+CR), and a 29 on the ACT. Any one what my chances of having my appeal approved would be?

From http://virtual.clemson.edu/groups/tcel/appeal.htm

I have been invited to the Bridge to Clemson Program, but wish to appeal. Is that possible?
Students who have been invited to the Bridge Program may submit an appeal. At the same time, the student can also express interest in Bridge and pay the required deposit while waiting to hear on the appeal. If the student is admitted to Clemson (including admission with required summer attendance or a spring semester deferment), the student automatically relinquishes his/her space in the Bridge Program, and any Bridge Program deposits that have been paid will be refunded.

The same thing happened to me. Is the Bridge program pretty much saying you’ve been denied?..or is it more like saying you’ve been waitlisted?

Neither, you’ve been given a conditional acceptance to Clemson. The Bridge program is where you attend a local community college for one year (Tri-County Tech) and if you do great in those classes you can transfer into Clemson for your sophomore year.

You’ll find all the info about the program here: <a href=“2023-2024 Bridge to Clemson Program | Clemson University, South Carolina”>http://www.clemson.edu/admissions/bridge/

Depending on what other schools you get into, it may or may not be worth it. Depends how badly you want to go to Clemson.

Hi Pierre - Can you provide perspective on Bridge with these caveats…older son is currently a sophomore and doing well, loving it. We are also from New England (like you). Will he feel “second class” or blend right in to the full experience given the older brother connections?

The Bridge program is completely separate from activities on Clemson. The Bridge program is housed in apartments off campus a few miles from Clemson as well as the community college Bridge students attend classes so there really isn’t reason to go to Clemson’s campus and get involved (especially so if you don’t have any means of transportation). In my honest opinion, as an out of state student I would not go through the Bridge program unless you really want to attend Clemson (just need a 2.5 GPA to transfer so that’s not hard at all). I’ve also heard some shady stuff about Bridge Students at Highpointe in terms or parties/drug/alcohol use.Check out this thread here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/clemson-university/870963-here-s-the-scoop-on-bridge-program.html#latest

It may help though if he can hang out with with someone he knows - he can participate in extracurricular activities on campus and go to football/basketball games with an additional fee.

In the end, look at the pros/cons and what other college offers he has and hopefully you’ll make the right decision!
