So I am eligible to receive the BFFAS scholarship and I was checking out the awards for 2011-2012 since they don't have the 2012-2013 ones up yet and I am pretty scared...

Is this information correct? Is the Bright Futures FAS only paying for about 50-60% of the tuition because that is definitely a big problem... I am sure that I will still be able to attend afford it but this definitely makes it harder.

I’m planning on getting bright future as well and the do have the requirements for 2012-2013, I know that because I was looking at them one or two days ago. About how much the pay of tuition, you’re right they only pay 50%-60% but they stopped paying full-tuition 2-3 years ago. I’m surprised your teachers haven’t been talking about that because my entire school knows that bright futures is only going I be around for 2-3 more years. Florida just doesn’t have enough money to go tears scholarships.

Well that really sucks =/ I guess I’ll just have to hope for FAFSA and FSU to give me more money. Bright Futures has come a long way down from paying 110% to 50-60%…

I was so excited yesterday when I saw I got the FAS award, but now that I found out that it’s paying so little I’ll have to look for other ways…

Yes, I know. The SAR that FAFSA sent me has estimated about $2,300 of Pell Grant so that is a plus, but I was still counting on Bright Futures.

Truthfully my parents will contribute anything that hasn’t been paid. They said that they don’t want me to get in debt with loans. My EFC is around $3,200 but I think it might go up a bit when I update my 2012-2013 with the new Tax information.

If you’re having to look other ways, I would suggest that you apply for every single scholarship you can find. I’m counting on Bright Futures and Florida Prepaid. I don’t want my mom to have to pay for anything so I’m going to try to get $30,000 in scholarships so I can go to college without taking money out of pocket. You can do anything you set your mind to.

It’s nice to think “you can do anything you set your mind to”, but you have to live in the real world. Outside scholarships are very competitive, are usually for small amounts, and typically only cover freshman year.

I know how the real world works and I’m aware of any possible shortcomings. There’s always a will and a way. If you have the stats and you honestly put towards the effort your work will be recognized in one way or the other.
