I have been told that you can use Florida Bright Futures towards colleges outside of the state, does anybody know what states or colleges accept Bright Futures? I was thinking of applying to Georgia Tech and Clemson and was wondering if i got 100% if i could apply any of that there.

I was wondering that same thing and asked last year on a different forum. Nobody could actually tell me the answer, all they could say is apply for Bright Futures either way, and then talk to your counselor about transferring it (which I am doing soon).

Unofficially I have heard from a friend that Bright Futures does NOT transfer, however, they award some scholarships to outstanding students going out of state (you would have to apply seperately). Again, take this with a grain of salt because I really don't know how valid this claim is.

Yea i guess ill have to ask my counselor about that too, thanks for the feedback

You can only use the Bright Futures Scholarship at a Florida public or private institution, not out of state.

BUT Assuming you apply and are deemed eligible for some level of the scholarship, the state will hold it in reserve for three years from the date of your graduation from high school. Sometimes students go out of state to school and then have to come back a year or so later due to circumstances beyond their control and wish they had applied for the scholarship. The state does not make any exceptions to this rule. If you do not apply during your senior year of high school then you are never eligible for the scholarship.

Perhaps you are thinking of Florida Prepaid Tuition which can be used out of state if you desire.

Agree with cybermom. You can only use the Bright Futures Scholarship at a Florida university. Most of my friends have applied it to the University of Miami because with the scholarships they received, the tuition was fully covered (which is very expensive in comparison with any state school)
