I would like feedback from parents/students that are currently in college and receiving Bright Futures.
When did you get a response from Florida Financial aid about your scholarship status? I understand that they give a preliminary response in late spring, but that the final decisions aren’t released until July, after the Legislative sessions.
Even though everything seems in order, I am a worrier and have concerns about something falling through the cracks.
I would love for Bright Futures veterans to relay their experiences, especially during the first year.
Thanks!
We went through this the summer of 2014. It really is a painless process, I think all we did was complete the Florida Financial Aid Application. I think we saw the status, online, when it was awarded (in our FFAA account) (June/July?). If the online form is completed, the rest is a breeze.
The school would then request the funds from the state. (I think they key off social security number). Before school started, we saw the scholarship in the “awards” package, online. The funds will show up a few weeks after school started (2?), but tuition wouldn’t be due to October.
If you have Florida Prepaid, it’s used to pay your tuition (and fee’s, if that’s covered in your plan) first, and then Bright Futures pays the rest (with any left over funds being deposited into your checking account, if you’ve set that up with your school before hand).
You need fill out the FFAA, Your need to go to the OSFA website and fill out the bright futures form, they should have done this in school but you have till August 31 to fill it out
@Gator88NE Thank you. That pretty much answered my question. You always have great answers about the Florida schools!
@Katvis Thanks for answering. The form was filled out in the wintertime. I was just reviewing UCF’s Financial Aid award letter and got to thinking about Bright Futures and was wondering when it will all tally up. I also wanted to make sure nothing was overlooked.
