My son will be starting UF in the Fall and is eligible for the 100% Bright Futures. When and how does the notification come, and has anyone heard from them yet concerning the amount they will be receiving??
Thanks!! :)

I got a letter from the department of education telling me about my award. The thing is, its not official until the final semester grades are in. Then you get "the letter." Also, the amount you can receive can change between the first time they contact you and the time when its official. If you haven't gotten anything yet, I would make sure that you've signed up for the state of florida financial aid stuff. it's at http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/osfahomepg.htm. If you've registered there, then you should be good to go! good luck! -M

Thanks for your reply.. yes my son did sign up back in Dec. and when I called them up they did say they had his application, but when I go to the website it says there is no award for that SS #. Then when my son questioned his guidance counselor, they looked it up somewhere else and everything was fine. I just wanted to know if anyone had gotten anything official. He is in IB and is done with school now with the exception of his tests so he won't be going to campus anymore and I wanted this to be taken care of. But if no one has gotten any official award letter yet then I won't worry!
Thanks

I just checked, my D's transcript has been sent but we haven't received an official award notification yet. I am not worried. All the paperwork seems to be in order.

Thanks Seidan for your reply. I just called Bright Futures and they said as soon as they get my sons community service hrs he will be at 100%. I know his counselor sent them in right before spring break so I will call them back to make sure that they got them. But the letter she told me doesn't go out till August and the money then goes directly to U.F.

Got the official notification letter today from the Florida Dept. of Education. It was interesting to note that the Academic Scholars (Full tuition) must maintain a college GPA of 3.0 to annually renew (keep it) or the scholarship is decreased to the Medallion Scholars ( 75% tuition). Medallion Scholars must maintain a college GPA of 2.75.
