Bring a suit?

Just wondering, since there will probably be a couple formal happenings at college, is it worth the struggle to bring my suit to college? I might even have to pack 2 full bags (max 23 kilograms per bag), and pay the extra baggage fee.

Do you guys bring your suit or is it not necessary?

Yes, I would definitely bring a suit! You never know when you’ll need it. You could want a part time job, be interviewed for something important like an internship, be invited to a semi formal or receive an important award at your school. I had no idea that I would be invited on a regional conference my freshman year that required formal attire and I’m glad that I didn’t miss out on that opportunity due to a lack of proper clothing. I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Brought my suit and tux and accompanying shirts, shoes, belts, cufflinks.
Was the go to guy for fancy parties because was I suited up and ready to roll.
Went to fun charity events, weddings, political events as a last minute date.
SChris- is your black/dark suit well tailored and fitted or do you need/can afford to get a newer more fitted suit?

I’m thinking about putting on10 kgs before I get new one. lost 8 in last 6 months and will 2 kgs in upcoming few months. :(

definitely bring the suit. and make sure that it’s well fitted.

Well not if u buy another one :D

SwedishChris, your college’s forum would be the best place to find out what sort of clothing is necessary, but you can rest assured that 99.9% of students at an American college will NOT bring a tuxedo (or even own one), nor would any events arise where a tuxedo would be necessary. But even in that extremely unlikely circumstance, a tuxedo could easily be rented. Please don’t buy one! Many (probably most) students will also not have a suit at college, but will typically handle interviews and other “dressy” occasions with just a navy sports jacket and a nice pair of tan or grey slacks. There’s nothing more uncomfortable than showing up at an interview or other event when you are the only one wearing a suit. And if I remember correctly, you are attending college in a particularly informal part of the country.

There is no problem with my suit… The question was if I should bring it across half the globe and if it is worth the 100 dollars to do so. I don’t think I can fold my suit and pack it anyway, so please tell me how you guys traveled by plane and got your suit with you :)

You could wear it on the flight :)

I had quite a number of classmates show up to class in a suit when they had an interview that day. Of course this depends on the (desired) occupation. Business majors were much more likely to catch suit-itis than tech folks or nursing students.
