bring camcorder to lecture?

Is it ok? Should I ask profs first? I don't think profs can see me cuz there are hundreds of people in the hall.

I used recorder before. However, it's pretty useless, cuz most profs use powerpoints and models to teach thing.

You should try asking first.

um... i don't mean for this to be offending but...

why can't you just sit through lecture and take notes like everybody else? i see no reason for you or anyone to need a recorder let alone a camcorder for lectures...

lol that would be hilarious if you videotape the lecture. and yes you should ask the professor first.

shirley,

You must absolutely positively ask permission. Not only is it common courtesy, it's a legal issue in the minds of some.

A lot of people in my class bring recorders. The table in the front is coverd with recorders during every lectures. They even record what TA said during tutorial. I think most people in my major are just like me - sucks note-taking skill. I compared my notes with all the recordings, and I found out I missed a lot of important stuffs. Also, when you are listening your recording and hear your prof said look at that model. It's so pointless.

I really need to have videos of my classes. Everything is so sucks. I can't find my prof cuz too many people are asking questions. And TAs are hardly available cuz a lot of selfish students ask DIFFERENT TAs the same questions over and over again, from NINE in the morning to THREE in the afternoon. I so want to say, "bit___ch, I've paid for my tuition too!" Besides buying a camcorder, I need to find my own private tutor too.

What kind of reason should I use? :(
Do you think prof can see me using a camcorder among hundreds of students?

^^ what she said.

my math 31b class had recorded lectures online. it was nice knowing that they would be available if i had to miss lecture for some reason. but i never re-watched lectures that i went to.

theres many many more productive things you can do rather than watch the lecture over. reading the book would be a start. or doing practice problems. or goto office hours. or goto discussion and ask your TA. or goto your TA's office hours. or ask a friend. or goto covel/drop in tutoring (if its a math/science class).

shirley,

The best reason? Honesty. Just say that you feel that you're having a tough time and would like to review the lectures. The worst thing that could happen is that the professor says no.

However, do no try to skirt it. If the professor says no, cut your losses and move on.

Ari, use your powers and merge the threads! :p

hmm...I'm thinking either buy a camcorder or find a private tutor.

what class is it?

I don't want to tell what class is it, but it belongs to chem and biochem. It's an impacted class.

I think 1/3 of students are form community colleges. I took classes in three CCCs before, and I met over 10-20 people from these CCCs, just from that class.

I didn't even notice it. Done.

It's so nice having a personal UCLA moderator....

....most of the time :p

I think a tutor might be a better investment than a camcorder.

Seriously.

If you bring a camcorder to a Political Science professor's lecture, he/she might suspect you of being a mole for the neo-conservative Bruin Alumni Association.
