Bring Computers up to campus

I was wondering if anyone brings their desktop pcs + monitors to use. I spent around $1000 building my setup and would hate to see it collect dust at home. I am also planning on bringing a laptop for mobile uses, but it is very slow in comparison and I am a heavy pc user (encoding/photoshop/vids). My laptop can't keep up.

Is there enough room in the dorms for the pc, and does it get too much in the way? I wouldn't want to annoy my roommate.

BTW, a seasoned Stanford student should start a thread dedicated to dorming/college life. One was done in the past, but it's rarely visited.

You can bring both computers and use the laptop for typing notes in class. More than 90% of students have a laptop, but you should have space under your desk to put the desktop without too much trouble, especially if you have an LCD monitor.

There is definetily room for a desktop. When I was visiting last weekend, one kid had a dual monitor setup.

Cool, thanks guys.

Wow a dual monitor setup. I should consider getting another lcd then.

yea...you will actually have plenty of room to put your desktop, your monitor, and your laptop ON the desk and still have space left over to do work.

If you are into custom-built rigs and overclocking come check out my setup during aw i will pm u my address.

My son brought a desktop his freshman year, though ended up buying a laptop two years later. It is nice to have a laptop, but having both is definitely not a problem space-wise.
