I live in Massachusetts and am considering bringing a car to my school in South Carolina next year. How long would I be able to keep the car there before I would have to register it in SC? (if I have to)

I did not have to register my car in Ohio, despite living in PA. I believe you only need to change your drivers license if you are a permanent resident. My drivers license it in PA, and I did not have to change anything. When I applied for a parking permit, I only needed to show my lease.

If you’re the typical student who comes home during breaks and summer and still uses your home address as your permanent address, you shouldn’t have to register the car in your college’s state.

Like Tiff said, I believe you only have to register it there if you become a resident of the state.

well another question is that since I’m driving it from MA to SC, I’m probably gonna leave it there for the next 2-3 years and not drive it back. What would I have to do when I have to change my vehicle inspection sticker?

Where are you going to store your car when you’re not at campus (summer, winter breaks)?
Aren’t you going to need your car at home during the summer months?

As long as you keep your home address as your permanent address, you won’t have to do any paperwork with the car. Get it inspected at home during one of the college breaks.
