Is bringing a car to mcgill a good idea? I will be living in the dorms there. How is the parking and how often would I need it? Would i be able to drive from my dorms to the school building?
What are the pros and cons in your opinion?

No, bringing your car is a terrible, terrible idea. In fact, I cannot reiterate how terrible of an idea it is. Unless you’re in Solin, all your classes will be within 15min maximum (and usually closer to 5 or 10). Parking, as it is at any university, is prohibitively expensive. And even if you are at Solin, it is both cheaper (subsidized student transit passes) and faster (downtown Montreal traffic) to take the Metro.

There is no pro to driving.

Seconding what HieronymusBosch said. Don’t do it, you’re wasting your money, especially since you’re living in the dorms anyways. I can’t think of any real benefit to doing so.

I agree with the above posters. It sounds like you have never visited McGill. Even in later years when you move off campus, it would be much easier to use the STM metro and busses to get around the city.

It would take you longer to drive and find parking than to walk. Literally. I live in Ottawa and have a car, yet if I go to Montreal by myself, I’ll usually leave the car at home and take the bus or train. It’s cheaper than gas for a return trip, and when I do drive, once I get to Montreal, the car stays in my brother’s apartment parking spot until the day I leave. It’s a real hassle to drive in Montreal, particularly downtown (plus gas was $1.396 per L in Montreal last Tuesday, or $5.24 (US) per US gallon).
