But I will agree that there are, ahem, “tricks” that you can learn to park on campus without a permit with very little risk. But I’m certainly not posting them here for all to see either.

UCLA77, yeah I knew Exposition hit south of Westside Pavilion, but that’s not exactly a convenient spot to park when you’re living on campus. Having to use public transportation to get to your car 2-3 miles away kind of negates much of the reason to even have a car to begin with…

Hmmm, then I’m not reading the OP’s question correctly.

“I was thinking of leaving my car in residential areas and taking the bus to campus, but if I did that, what would I do on street cleaning days?”

That kind of sounds like the OP was broadening the scope of the parking space hunt to more than a 5 minute walk from campus. Parking directly around campus is either nearly impossible or cost prohibitive. Most students who do bring a car who haven’t a permit do park south of campus, all the way down to National, and take the blue bus directly onto campus. Pay the student price of 50 cents each way and you’re out a dollar. If there’s a street cleaning day, you move your car to the other side of the street, stop off at Westside Pavillion or one of the many restaurants on Pico to get a bite to eat (a nice break from dorm or Ackerman food), sit a spell at Barnes & Noble, and back on the bus. Simple!
