It says on the move-in website "Don't bring a fridge, get one from [place]" but there's nothing specifically saying we're forbidden from bringing our own - just that RSSP would very much appreciate it if we used one that saves them $10 a year in energy costs and nets them a cut of the sales.

So, has anyone found any clause anywhere that specifically states that we CANNOT bring our own refrigerators?

You can bring your own. I went to tour every res hall (except Clark Kerr and Bowles) during Cal Day and someone always asked this, and all the tour guides said you could bring your own as long as it went along with the safety rules.

“Students are discouraged from bringing their own refrigerator and/or microwave and encouraged to rent a microwave/refrigerator/freezer combination from Micro101 Solutions.”

Discouraged, but still allowed to :)

“Note: One refrigerator per double room, two refrigerators per triple room maximum, except in certain buildings on Clark Kerr Campus.”

Also, does anyone know of any hot plate and/or toaster oven brands that do NOT violate the fire safety (or whatever else it is) codes? I’m a bit of a food nut, and while I’m not going to deny myself a meal on the basis that I’d have to warm it up in a microwave, I’d rather use something…else.

unless you really like food, i found both fridge and microwave not to be of any importance lest you like to take space away from the already limited amount (for the Units at least). All the microwave food Berk sells is pretty much disgusting (and popcorn was a disaster at FH: fire alarm goes off/smell lingered for about 3 days even after windows were propped open). Fridge is okay I guess, but I expected myself to eat whatever fruits I had within 3 or 4 days anyways and I just had milk during lunch/dinner, or bought a milk protein shake. =)

Well, I’m here for summer session, and some people across the hall have a fridge and microwave, and we have all been using it everyday. I don’t know about the fall, when the DCs are open for more hours, but it’s really convenient when you just want to eat without having to walk 4 blocks.
