Bringing a Motorcycle to College

I will be a Freshman this year and was wondering how safe the campus is to store motorcycles, if people mess with them (tip them over, scratch it etc.) And also how many other motorcyclists there are on campus... Any feedback appreciated. Thank you

A lot of people (usually athletes) bring mopeds to school and I don’t notice a lot of problems with this. As for real motorcycles that you need a license for, I have never seen someone on campus with one, so I am going to assume you mean a vehicle that is more like a moped.

People generally don’t mess with them and don’t park them in public places overnight. Usually the owners just bring it to campus during the day while they are at class and then ride back home. I don’t recommend living in a res hall and having one unless your res hall has a really safe place for it (like Middlebrook since they have an enclosed bike area). A bicycle will be more than sufficient for life on campus.

So I don’t suggest bring/buying one until you move off campus and you learn the culture of the area

First, Thank you for a response. And second, I do already have a motorcycle and a license and I just want the peace of mind if I cover it, and lock it, that no one is going to be mean enough to knock it over or try to steal it…

Ah, then yes. People are respectful of vehicles in general. Unfortunately, you’d have to ride it on the street with the other cars which be very difficult depending on where you are living Freshman year. In addition, you can’t ride it in the winter anyways so I would recommend not bringing it until maybe spring semester after spring break. There is still a lot of construction around campus and it won’t really be worth it having that extra hassle to worry about, especially trying to figure out if it is in a safe place.
