I'm thinking about bringing a mini fridge for my dorm.. maybe a 3.3 cubic ft. one? Am I better off just renting from Irvine? Anything I should know about bringing one (pros/cons), or any recommendations for a good fridge?

hey im thinking oh bringing a mini fridge too, im thinking if your roommate is thinking of renting one then u should chip in to share with her, but if not u should bring ur own

Buy one. It costs nearly as much to rent a fridge as it does to buy one, and if you buy one you can keep it for all four years of college. Much better investment. And don't worry too much about the size. Although there is a maximum size they allow, no one really enforces that. Just don't buy a full-sized fridge.

They've got good ones at Costco and Sam's Club for around $150.

also, how do we figure out if the fridge we want to bring is "UL-approved"?

Yea, It's much more worth it to buy your own. My roommate is going to rent the minifridge while I bring the TV/iron. I told him he should buy one...but he won't listen :[.

Don't worry about UL-approved. No one is going to check.

I was told that a fridge was a MUST last year. It isn't. My roommate and I rarely used it. I say unless you're bringing food to your dorm every week, you wouldn't need it.

Related question: ARe the communal kitchens in each suite (as in Mesa) stocked with utensils of any kind, or toasters, etc?

For instance if you wanted to bake a birthday cake, or cookies, would you have to have all your own pans, mixing bowls, etc.?

nope... no utensils what so ever...
the only thing in the kitchens are stove, fridge, sink, soap/sponge, and shelves...

anyone know what kind of microwaves we can bring?

you are not allowed to bring any microwaves to your dorm, only a mini fridge, if you waant a microwave then you should rent a micro-fridge combo or just use the one in the kitchen

aw, man....

You don't need a microwave in your room. Trust me. They stink up your room anyway. The one in the kitchen is more than enough. It's not like you're going to be microwaving 24-7.
