hi I am an international student and I am heading to a boarding school next year.

I have tons of stuff that I need to bring with me, but I am having troubles since I cant take all of my stuff and board the airplane. (cant really take my stuff back and forth cause of the weight limit)

my current house is in the U.S. (but we are moving next year to outside of U.S.), so I was thinking of bringing my stuff to the school at the beginning of this coming summer vacation so that I do not need to catch the plane with all of my junk.

what should I do? how can schools help me with storing stuff??? helpmeout.

does anyone know the policy for andover regarding storage?

I would but most things when you get there. Bring clothes, personal (aka sentimental) items, and maybe bedding. but BUY THE REST THERE! There is no reason to lug a massive (coughcoughPPVcough) list’s worth of stuff when most of it can be bought at Target.

haha OR MIDDLESEX! lol I’m buying all my stuff in Boston too. I’ll probably end up becoming a Red Sox/Celtics/Bruins fan. Probably not a Patriots fan, though. I’m a Saints fan through and through :)

Yeah…you can buy school supplies at the school store, but keep in mind that school store will be generally be more expensive than regular stores…I always got my notebooks and binders and paper and all that kind of stuff from staples or target.

Since you’re coming by plane, pack your clothes and other stuff you can’t live without and get everything else when you get here, especially stuff like bedding and pillows which can take up a lot of room in a suitcase.

I’m not really sure what you mean by bring your stuff to school at the beginning of this summer vacation…if you mean going to the school in like this coming june with all your stuff, they probably won’t let you do that because there’ll be no place to put it. Generally after you’ve attended the school, like after freshmen year you’ll be able to leave stuff in storage over the summer or can find someplace nearby where you can rent storage space…I don’t know Andover’s policies, but at my school we could store some stuff over break.

yeaa, just bring your laptop, ipod, cell phone and what not, clothes, and probably bedding.
you can probably buy the rest at a store near your bs whether it’s target or wal-mart.
(i prefer target, do they have a target near exeter?!)

You won’t need a printer…there will be enough computer labs that you won’t need one, but I guess if you want to get one for the convenience then you can.

if you have one already then that would be fine.
but i wouldn’t waste money buying a printer because they have loads of printers at the library and whatnot.

I would get one if there isn’t one in the dorm somewhere. I print out many papers late at night to get it ready for the next day, not sure about yourself. The school should tell you if you need one or not. My tour guides at SPS and Exeter and one in their dorms.

Andover’s handbook will outline what is not allowed in the dorms.

Do you presently live within driving distance of Andover? If so, your parents could rent a self-storage unit in the area, for the time between your move and the start of school. If you already own many of the items you’ll use at school, it makes sense to not transport them to another country and back. Buying things you don’t need is also wasteful.

Actually, most internationals would prefer to buy almost EVERYTHING from their country, espeicially if coming from an asian country, as it is much cheaper and most would say the quality is also better. It’s a tricky situation.

The school will send a list of what to bring AND WHAT IS NOT ALLOWED. Wait. Breathe.

Plenty of kids arrive with two suitcases and are happy as clams.

A lot of the Asian kids at D’s school bring unique pencil cases from home, because they see and touch it all day long: a small reminder of home.
