i got in a stupid dilemma.
i received a laptop as a gift(woohoo)
I have iMac that i bought 4-5 years ago, andi love it.
i have no problem using my iMac(i dont play games and it'snot slow for me)
and i love doing stuffs with it and it's easier to use and i have gigas of stuffs

now i dont want to bring too many thing college,
but i really dont have other option other than giving up imac or bring it up.
(cuz i'm an international student and dont have a family here in US)

would it be a real stupid idea to bring two computer to my dorm??
is anyone gonna do that?

I don't really think it is a stupid idea, considering one is portable while the other isnt... it's not like you are bringing two desktop computers.

I am bringing a small desktop and LCD + a slate tablet pc.
The tablet is like a notebook that i can bring around with me, but then I still have a conventional desktop to work alot on.

I'm bringing a high end desktop on which I can run more intensive programs and where I can do more...stuff. I'm also brining a laptop to type stuff up when I'm in the library working.

if you can bring it w/you directly…shipping computers requires a lot of bubble wrap, popcorn (you’ll know what this is if you’ve shipped stuff before, etc. etc.

of course it would be cheaper to have your parents bring it along w/you, you bring it yourself (if your driving), or ship it out

BTW…UPS > FedEx for anything over 5 pds. where the Post Office USPS is usually cheaper

Just remember that a computer that is 4-5 years old is obsolete now. You're basically talking about bringing (literally) a computer from the 20th century in the 21st century. I don't reccomend it.

yeah having 2 computers can really help. Just a couple weeks ago my desktop's power supply blew, but I was still able to use my laptop until I got a new one. Also I plan on using my desktop to back up all my important files from my laptop like papers and notes, just in case. :)

Spyder2287, bringing a second computer to back-up files is unnecessary. Usually students can back-up work on the University network. If not, you can always burn your files to CD, DVD, or a Flash Drive.

I thought I wouldn't but I'm bringing two. Got my tiny laptop and then a full desktop(superfast LOL) w/ 19" flat panel LCD. Too many wires to connect, disconnect each time I wanted to move my laptop... printer, monitor, power, internet, audio... a big pain, IMO. For some a docking station would solve this, but unfortunetly it was going to cost me the same to buy a docking station/monitor/full keyboard as it was for a full desktop... well almost.

As long as you have the space for it, and you already have the computers, why not? You just have to worry about shipping it now.
And yea FedEx sucks, don't use it. Their tracking is inaccurate and the delivery people are contractors who don't care if your stuff breaks.
