Brita Pitcher?

My D only drinks water. At home, we have a water filter. D is thinking for school she’d like a Brita water filter pitcher. Do any of your students use this? Is it even necessary? How does the drinking water taste?

I know tons of people who use Brita filters in college. It’s perfect if you want filtered water. I would also recommend that you check out the Brita water bottles that they have which have a filter built into a basic water bottle. They’re super convenient and you can just fill them up and go!

My daughter took a Brita pitcher for all the suite-mates to use. She definitely used it, don’t know about the other girls.

I loved my Brita pitcher my sophomore year. I always thought Tuscaloosa water had a slightly strange taste, and the filter gets rid of it quite easily. Plus, if you remember to fill the pitcher up, then you always have cold water available.

Son has gotten good use of his Brita pitcher since freshman year. One roommate had refill filters as well so the pitcher was shared with all. It is more convenient, cheaper, and ecologically friendly than buying bottled water. Son prefers not to drink soda and rarely, juices, but does drink water and tea so water is his main drink. The Brita pitcher is one of his kitchen essentials.

Any complaints about Tuscaloosa water without the Brita pitcher? I’m sure I drank tap water while I was there for Bama Bound and I don’t remember the water one way or the other, which probably means it’s pretty good, since I’m used to good Lake Michigan water here.

My husband and son use these all of the time. The nice thing is that you can fill up at any tap, the filter is in the lid part…I think Britta has some too, but they liked these better:

D1 loved having the filtered Brita water. We bought the replacement filters and encouraged her to change them out during the year.

I have no experience with the Alabama dorms, but the frig in the dorm for my D1 at another school was not able to accomodate the Brita pitcher, size-wise. Just a heads-up to make sure the Brita unit you choose (pitcher/water bottle) can be kept in the frig, if that is your intent.

We bought a water filter that snaps on to the kitchen sink for my daughter’s apartment. We are going to purchase one for DS’s suite so that the boys will always have filtered water available. Somehow I don’t see them diligently filling a pitcher every time it’s empty ;)

My kids have the small Brita Pitcher. It takes very little room…and was less than $10 at Walmart.

However, both Costco and Sams have a larger one that comes with a bonus filter for about $27. I also get our extra filters at either store (Costco just had a coupon for their filters).

D has had her Brita pitcher for the past two years & it’s worked out great. She fills it up at night, then in the morning fills her Camelbak for the day.

Tuscaloosa has soft water that is likely fluoridated. I’m used to drinking very good water (snow-melt from the Cascade Mountains) and think that Tuscaloosa’s water is pretty good tasting. It’s slightly better than Birmingham and Atlanta’s and is much better than Orlando’s and Houston’s. As such, I don’t use a Brita filter and make sure that my water comes without lemons when at restaurants.

Some students use Brita filters to further distill cheap vodka.

Every building on the UA campus has multiple water fountains which are often located near restrooms or vending machines that sell bottled water.

Sea_tide, you crack me up. Are you rolling your eyes over this type of topic and wondering why people don’t have better things to do than worry about where their water comes from? Our water comes from Lake Erie. We are from Cleveland which at one time was known as the “mistake on the lake”. We probably should be drinking bottled water.
