British colleges

What sorts of chances do American students with IB Diplomas have at top British schools?

When's the deadline for British schools? I thought it already passed.

The deadline for Oxford and Cambridge (as well as for medicine, vetrinary medicine, etc) was/is October 15th. The deadline for the others isn't until later (can't remember exactly when).

Keshira, from what I hear British universities look very favorably upon IB diploma candidates.

Okay, here's what I know as a fellow IB person:

www.ibscrewed.net - IB website/forum with a highly appropriate URL.

Most schools, especially the top ones, have a cut-off point for your IB scores. For instance, Oxford doesn't accept anyone with a score below 40 (FAT FREAKING CHANCE, says I), Cambridge doesn't accept anyone below 36, St. Andrews doesn't accept anyone below a 38 for certain programs, etc. It's best to ask your school's IB coordinator, as they'll have experience getting kids into British schools.

To apply to a british school you gotta go through UCAS. Nice thing is that it's basically a government-mandated common app, so you can apply to every school in the UK through it.

The deadline is some time around Jan 1. Check the UCAS website.

I believe its Jan 15th.
I also don't think it's an absolute cutoff, although i'm not sure on that. I believe I've read that it's more or less rolling, but Jan 15 is like the preferred deadline and if you submit afterwards you still technically have a chance, but very small. Also i fyou don't get into ANY of you six choices I believe you can also submit to other colleges again. I'm not sure though.

Whoa. Those are pretty high cutoffs. But achievable, I think. I think I can almost def. achieve a 36, but 40 is a bit more...iffy. And if that's their low score cutoff, then I shudder to think what other qualifications they want.
