Broad question, but please help

I was wondering, just as a rule of thumb, what GPA one should have in order to be a serious candidate for admission to a MA / PhD program in the humanities / liberal arts (history, english, philosophy, etc). at a top school. By top school, I mean University of Chicago, Berkeley, Brown, Michigan, Harvard, etc. I know a lot of other things go into consideration (test scores, recs, writing samples, etc). But is there a general rule for GPA to aim for to be successful, not taking into account undergrad college?

For a broad answer, I’d say in the range of 3.7 as a minimum.
