Sara Ramirez IS amazing.. she earned her tony, by far.
if i were of the female sort sara would definitely be my idle. (but i'm of the male sort, so i look up to gavin creel. of all the actors on broadway, i match his style the closest.)
anyway, i digress..
i agree completely with musicman; run, do not walk, to the shubert in nyc as fast as possible to see spamalot. if you don't have big money to do so, you can get in line around 7am outside the theatre for sro tickets the day of the show for $21.25. (any later and you probably won't get the tickets.)
i saw spamalot last weekend, as well as la cage, all shook up, and the last performance of brooklyn. spamalot was certainly my favorite of the 4.

My daughter saw Altar Boyz" when she visited NY over spring break. They are off broadway, but she said AMAZING!! She ordered the OCR that was just released in May and it is great!

We saw the show in April and it is, indeed, amazing. My son will be seeing it again while he is at the NYU Steinhardt MT camp.

vocaldad

Does anyone know anywere to get the soundtrack to Summer of 42'. I dont think it ever made it to Broadway, but I found one of the songs on Itunes and its amazing. Also would anyone recommend the DRS soundtrack? I love Norbets voice.

I got the DRS soundtrack off iTunes and thought it was great. Not only do you get all the songs in the show, but you get a short message from John Lithgow, two concept recordings by David Yazbek, and Sherie Rene Scott singing a special version of a "Nothing is Too Wonderful."

Its like a DVD with all the bonus features.

summer of '42 is not out yet. go to www.jayrecords.com/recordings/summerof42

they say it is coming soon.

OKmom I jsut looked at the site and it seems Idina Menzel is not in the cast recording. She orginated the role of Dorthey (or atleast thats what it says in the program for Wicked ) so Im confused.

Summer of '42 played a short run off-Broadway several years ago. It was not well-received. To my knowledge, no cast recording was made at that time. The one linked above is from a subsequent touring cast. Idina was in the show pre-NYC.

You mean there is someone else who is a Jason Robert Brown fan???? I just saw Songs for a New World last night and was blown away. I can't wait to see The Last Five Years later this summer. As for my other favorite soundtracks:

I like your choices Prof. Himmelheber. Lots of Yeston on my Ipod shuffle....but my obsession this summer is Light in the Piazza since we saw it in June. Glad you have Floyd Collins on your list.....what a GREAT sound in that music! I'll swap lists with you anyday!

Well, mt mom, I'd LOVE to see your list. Bring it (as the kids say)!

:)

eve

I want to reiterate the recording of Light in the Piazza. It's just a GORGEOUS composition, and I've just been listening to it non-stop. I'm glad to say that in a couple of years (or even by August), I'll be able to brag that I saw the OBC of Light in the Piazza. Another recording I've been addicted to is the Hair Benefit Concert. Fun fun fun fun stuff.

And ANOTHER (sorry) recording is Little Women. I mean...yes, the show is boring, but I found myself just HOOKED to the recording the moment I got it. Just...easy to listen to.

My favorites:

Wicked (although I'm sort of sick of it now, but I'm seeing it in a week!)
A Chorus Line
Oklahoma
The Music Man
The Boyfriend
Bye Bye Birdie
Les Mis (although I prefer the Original London Cast but both are good)
Chicago
Hairspray
Cats

I know I'm missing a million great ones... but those are just a few of my faves.
