Broadway Theatre Project

Looking at summer intensives for graduating seniors and college kids. I’m familiar with TPAP, but don’t know much about BTP. Anyone familiar with this program who can shed some light on it? Any other suggestions for this age group? Thanks so much!

D17 did BTP in Tampa for two summers. Intensive is the right word (I assume most of them are). Full days, 9am - 10pm ish. Lots of master classes taught by Broadway folk, auditions, etc. Work on technique during the day and practice for the summer show in the evenings. Impressive list of instructors. D felt she grew as an artist both summers. It was challenging.

Thanks @rickle1 - I really appreciate the info! I’m having trouble finding much detail on the website so it’s good to hear your d enjoyed it enough to go back. Was it mostly high schoolers or were there college kids as well?

Both HS and College. They work at USF (University of South Florida) and stay in a nearby hotel, eat in the campus dining hall, etc. It’s been 1.5 yrs so it’s a bit fuzzy but I think it was mainly HS. Draws a very talented group (have to audition in) from all over the country. I think it’s a 3 week program. Not inexpensive which is why we chose to stop after 2 years.

Frequently someone from a major show’s name will come up and D will say, “I took a class with her” or “I met him at BTP”. Pretty cool.

I also feel like every year (from research) BTP changes it up. Like its not the same every summer, whether that is good or bad I don’t know

Any insight on the housing or food, as a side note?

Last summer BTP Tampa was approx 3k for 3 weeks including housing (not sure about food. My D didn’t stay in the hotel as she was only 16 and most of the kids were older (and we live 10 minutes away). We’re not doing it this year as she has other show commitments.
