brokeback mountain

has anybody seen it yet? I did last night and it was so sad :(. Half the theater was crying at the end.

i am seeing it today, and yeah, my mom who saw it sad to bring LOTS of tissues

ummmm isn't this meant to be in the CC cafe???

Umm, footscrubber...who cares? mwhaha

I saw it Friday night...and yes, I cried, and was upset for a long time afterwards. It was powerful.

Great movie. I just wish there had been a more palpable chemistry between Jack and Ennis.

I never thought this movie would be released in mainstream theaters because of the controversy surrounding it. I had to go Downtown to see it. at the time, it was playing in only about 5 theaters in the entire Chicagoland area.

loved it. it was sooo upsetting, but romantic.

okay, i don't know what has gotten into me, but some how i'm breaking out the symbolisim. do you think they were hearding sheep because sheep are so innocent, and that's how their love was at the beginning? i feel really dumb even saying it, lol... let me know. :-)

both yes and no.

it depends on how you interpret it. some people may say that cowboys are supposed to herd sheep and cattle. others might give your logic. the whole beauty of any movie lies in its various interpretations..(different people interpreting the same thing differently..)

P.S.
save your symbological skills for 'the da vinci code' :D. i think, its going to be an awesome movie. :)

I'm going to see it this weekend :D. I'm glad to see how these good reviews here and am totally looking forward to it. Usually I detest romance movies as they usually pretty shallow - like 'a walk to remember', 'titanic' and 'the notebook', or maybe I lack tear ducts. besides it'll have pretty boys in it...

i saw it too. i was so good. i liked heath ledger's character Innis, but i thought that the critics underrated Jake Gyllenhaal's character.

Don't set your expectations too high, or you might get disappointed. Because of all the hype, I really expected to be totally blown away and to be sobbing by the end, but I wasn't. It's still a great movie, however.

I think that only a true movie critic-- and one who can truly understand what it means to be human-- would be able to appreciate the subtleties in words, movement, and the overall feel of the movie...and the directional choices that Ang Lee makes, like the fireworks. don't know if that was part of Annie Proulx's short story. When the characters are being unpredictable, that is the time to question what's really going on inside their heads.

The scenes are so subtle and powerful, they just creep up on you (I was totally immersed in the story), to the point where you don't realize they're supposed to mean something "more."

There is a lot of symbolism in this film (for one, Heath Ledger's name, Ennis, which means an island in some language) and a lot of great, original lines, even though the characters' thick accents sometimes make the words hard to understand.

There are several unresolved conflicts in the story...you'd be asking yourself if such and such really happened, or if so and so was responsible for a particular incident. Even the minor characters are there for a reason.

Overall, I give the movie an A-. The 8% room for improvement can go towards making the chemistry between Ennis and Jack more believable and more palpable, and also towards showing more of Ennis and Jack's miseries when they're apart.

There was one gay sex scene (the kind with movement but nothing is shown), but it wasn't graphic. Other scenes just showed them cuddling. The heterosexual scenes were somewhat graphic though. As for Jack and Ennis, I was kind of surprised by how they did it the first time. The way they did it (not their reasons for doing it) was out-of-character, not because of their traditional macho roles but because Jack was supposed to be playful/caring and Ennis reserved/shy. How they did it struck me as odd; this was how it was in the short story too. It definitely made me think.

i was shocked by the manner in which they had sex too. and i think that the graphic and more prevalent nature of the heterosexual scenes could be commentary by Ang Lee on the more acceptable nature of heterosexuality over homosexuality. I mean, pda by heteros is more acceptable than pda by homosexuals. But it could also be indicative of women's roles in movies. Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway are partially nude in the movie, while the male characters are not. this is true of many movies and could be attributed to the fact that women are seen as sex objects in american society moreso than men.

Brokeback Mountain was an absolutely fantastic film.
