broken calculator, need help

I had used my TI-83 Plus for a couple of years before one day it displayed an error message, "Please download calculator software now." and no longer responded to any stimuli or keystrokes. It was really weird because I never dropped or abused my calculator like everyone else, and it stopped working for no reason.

Now since I'll be needing to use it at school, I tried to fix it by connecting it to the computer with a 'TI Connectivity Kit USB' to the TI website where I can download calculator software and other things, but the TI Connect program wasn't able to make a connection with the calculator. I am mad for I spent $25 on the calculator USB and it doesn't work! Could somebody help me?

Have you seen this support page on TI's website? If you can't get the TI OS Downloader to work, then you can send the OS to your calculator from a friend's 83+

I tried that, and it didn't work.

You need a Unit-to-Unit link cable. Find another friend with an 83, link up the calc with yours, and transfer his\her Operating System to yours. Otherwise, I don't believe there is a method of installing, because Ti-Connect software doesn't recognize the calculator. You must make sure you are "Receiving" while he is transmitting the OS.

Sigh my TI 83 plus broke down for me too this summer. I speculate that my perfume (i don't know why but this certain perfume kept on leaking...) got all over my calculator and broke it in the plane ride... Along with my pikachu pet thing I got in 5th grade or something.. sigh memories.

Well one good thing is i have no more math classes so I dont' really need it. the bad thing is it was my friend. Sniff. I might get another one just bcuz i can't live without one anymore.
