Brother got into UCSB, i heard some crazy thing are they true??

Hey, we live in PA and he will be out of state resident, i think the only reason why he wanted to go there is because our cousins go there and says its absolutely crazy, drunkiness galore with orgies on the streets on Isla Vista, del playa.

Is this stuff true, well i know UCSB is right on the pacific and is absolutely scenic, do you think its more like a resort vs a university? Can this temptation be dangerous.

Considering its a UC school its got to be up there in academics also specifically engineering dep. I hear they have one of the top Electrical engineer programs there and that’s what my brother is going for…

Is there any UCSB students on the CC? I would apreciate if you state your personal feelings about the whole environment UCSB brings…

without a doubt...its a party environment. Yes, you can avoid it if you want, but its hard. I posted a long time ago that our friend was not a partier. She went there and felt like a real outsider. She ended up dropping out after Xmas...too much of a wild atmosphere for her.

To each his own...if you are from a small town you may have trouble adjusting. Is he for sure going? I thought the response date was yesterday. Did he tour?

Check out the UCSB boards and ask your question on that board, there's a few current UCSB students answering questions:

Based on all of the reading I've done on UCSB over the last few points, few people have expressed problems concerning the "party atmosphere", and many current students have said they (or their friends) rarely party but still very much enjoy the campus.

hi. i'm going to ucsb in the fall. and i live close to it. isla vista is full of college kids so of COURSE it's a party town. but for the most part, its on the weekends. and actually, the partying has lessened over the years. and the police are more active in patroling. but any college is going to have lots of parties. it just so happens that UCSB has better ones.
