Brown 2014 - ED applicants

i LOVE spring awakening. it trumps anything i’ve seen

Then you REALLY need to see In the Heights. It represents all that is good in the musical world, and…gah. Lin-Manuel is one of THEE nicest people ever, too! I completely forgot whta the name of it was, but he’s on YouTube with the guy who plays/played Benny–they were part of some really awesome free styling group.

But yeah, that show made me cry three times when I first saw it. The second time, all I wanted to do was cry because it was (is) so amazing.

Haha, I supposeee you can come on the tour, considering how close you are to us LIers. =P

Congratulations, Paperflower! Good luck in the rest of the admissions process. :)

Michael, I’m from the ATL too! It’s a small world!

And as far as musicals go, I saw In the Heights on tour this weekend, and it was fantastic. The girl who played Vanessa didn’t have a very strong belt, but everyone else sounded just as amazing as the original cast (especially Benny and Nina).

SA and N2N are also amazing (and N2N totally deserved to win best musical in my opinion).

But my favorite musical of all time is [title of show]. I’ve been a fan since it ran off Broadway at the Vineyard, and I was so sad that it closed on Broadway before I got the chance to see it!

Ahhh! A [tos] fan! Did you watch the [title of show] show on YouTube? They didn’t deserve to have just one Tony nomination, in my opinion, because the entire show was sheer brilliance. Le sigh, I’m still a bit bitter over the whole thing.

paperflower, care to share the types of questions you were asked? any curveballs?

Yes, I did, Dramacratic! I also have seen a performance of the show… through less… mainstream means. (But only after it had closed!!! It was closure for me!!!)

I was in utter shock when I heard it wasn’t nominated for Best Musical. Really, the Tony Committee picked Shrek over a funny, thought-provoking, entirely original musical?

I listen to Die, Vampire, Die! Every time I get nervous before a performance or audition. In fact, I was an understudy for a show at the Alliance Theater here in Atlanta, and I was unexpectedly asked to go on for a character. The only thing that kept me from a panic attack was listening to that song on my ipod.

[title of show] reminds me of what a beautiful thing creative expression is. And in fact, this free expression is one of the reasons why I want to go to Brown. I think Brown has a [tos]sy feel to it, don’t you?

YES! My initial Common App essay (I scrapped it many, many times) was inspired by Die, Vampire, Die! The cast was on my cruise this past summer, and I attended a writing course run by Susan, Hunter and Larry; I had to create my biggest vampire and alter the lyrics to allow me to slay it. Honestly, it was one of the most intense things I had ever done.

Brown is very [tos]y. But Brown in general is amazing, so that detail doesn’t surprise me one bit. Hahah, and what were these “less than mainstream means,” exactly?

Is theatre the field you want to pursue/concentrate in?

My Common App essay was about my hard core addiction to theater in general, and I think I mentioned [tos] in there somewhere. And by less than mainstream means, I mean… Well maybe the cast at 2 min. 14 sec. can say it best: [YouTube - Title of Show final curtain](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niCXALPPrR4)

At my Thespian Conference this year, I took the Die, Vampire, Die! workshop with Hunter. And then there was a tornado watch, so we got to spend an extra hour with him. It was definitely an amazing experience.

You went on the Rosie cruise?!?!? So jealous! I’m trying to convince my parents to let me go next year.

And yes, I’m planning on double majoring in East Asian Studies and Theatre Arts.

haha to ivy! someone always has it worst
@dramacratic my lab is at memorial sloan-kettering cancer center the zuckerman research center. yea what are you researching?

Hahahahaha at the video, and the fact that you knew the exact time (it sounds like something I would do). My final CA essay was about my path to re-discovery by tracking my changes in reflection, and had this underlying theme/motif of Disney. It was…interesting to write, to say the least, but I’m pretty proud of it.

Ahhh! You know about the Rosie cruise! This past summer was my third year, but I probably won’t be doing any others because of the restrictions. We won’t be getting our own boat next year due to how much money they lost this past summer, so each ship will have less than a 50% gay family population, with the rest being inhabited by heterosexual families–not that I have any qualms about them, considering I come from both worlds, but it’ll have a totally different vibe. 'Tis very saddening. But I’m done ranting now. =]

@Adeyadi: I’m finishing up my study that investigated a novel route for inhibiting resistance in methicillin-resistant staph (MRSA); using essentially its own DNA to annihilate itself, rather than a new antibiotic. What about you?

Just got back from my interview! It went really well, very relaxed. Basically just talked about Brown’s awesomeness. The guy was really nice and it turned out that he knows my dad and I know his daughter. Small world isn’t it? At the end he said he would do whatever he could to help me get it, which is definitely appreciated.

To anyone who hasn’t had their interview yet - honestly, don’t be nervous. I wouldn’t even call it an interview. My interviewer said that Brown barely even takes the report into consideration, it’s mostly just for you to ask questions and get a first hand experience about Brown.

I’m sorry to hear that, DC (May I call you DC?). Although I have to admit, both my parents and I would be the out of place heterosexuals on the old Rosie cruise. But still, I’m sorry they lost the full boat!!! I really would be going for the Broadway stuff (and to see Cheyenne Jackson tanning on the sun deck… I want to see Finian’s Rainbow sooooooooo badly).

Cheyenne Jackson. His thighs are seriously the 8th wonder of the world. Unfortunately, he was very well cast in Xanadu, and is not the sharpest tool in the shed in real life. Very nice guy, though, and he loves his parents dearly. He’s a wiz at karaoke, too! Haha, but you and your family would know what to expect–there were many heterosexual families there, actually! But oh well, I supposeee we’ll see what happens. Mmmm, Finian’s Rainbow…I couldn’t agree with you more!

Haha, if you want to. I mean, you could also use my real name, Lauren, but if you call me DC then I’ll definitely be calling you DQ. Hope you don’t mind! =]

i can’t believe i’ve never come across this thread before! and i’ve been like a secret stalker of CC for a while now. but finally got a ID
hahaha i feel so relieved to see people that are obsessed with brown as much as me.
these days i can’t even go to sleep! and there’s still like a month left till early decision results. i’m gonna have a major case of insomnia nearing the days of the decision.
oh how so badly i want to get innnnn a;lkdfja;jf

question: are there some cases in which the school releases results to ED applicants before dec15? bc i see some people on facebook that say they already got in o_o

Hopefaith, I’m rightttt there with you. My homepage is the Brown Daily Herald and a countdown until December 15. My level of anxiety/obsession is starting to become a problem.

Yeah! Last year they were released on the 13th, and the 11th the year before (or it might be the other way around). I just want my interview, and for it to be the 15th already…blahhh. =</p>

aghhh me tooo. my interview’s on the 21st of this month
i’m seeing like old threads of admission decisions and the one’s that post “i got in!!” i cannot describe my jealousy for them

i never got an interview :(

Don’t even go there. I was looking at that same thread, and after around page 16 I decided I needed to stop looking at the stats before I went even more nuts than I already was.

I haven’t been contacted for mine yet…I’m beginning to panic. =[

Yeah me either. I reallyyyy want to be contacted. Ah!

did you submit your application really close to deadline? cause i think they need to process a lot of things before contacting an alumni to interview you. but sometimes there are no alumni near your home, so that could be the reason. dont worry too much
