Brown 2014 - ED applicants

I’ve looked at Macalester and Bowdoin if Brown doesn’t work out (although I don’t really consider either of those two schools “safeties”)

@ivy- oh wow, yeah that iss lower acceptance rate than i thought
and @bluecoast, yeah i’m looking for not safeties, but low reaches or high matches that would fit my personality and give me an academically enriching and enjoyable next 4 years of my life

had my interview today. it was unbelievably casual. we just talked about life. really, not a big deal at all.

I love how laid-back all these interviews have been :)

hopefaith you should look at university of chicago… very similar to brown in terms of social atmosphere…

really? yeah i actually looked into it
but like what i found was like opposite o_o saying that people dont really socialize much and all they do is stay in their dorms studying basically
so everything about u of c i liked, cept for the social atmosphere

well maybe its just me because i already have a lot of family and friends there that i dont think i realize. the place is like its own village. a village is very social and the have some cute little restaurants where you can always go to hang out, the food is wonderful, even the lab schools food is good. the professors that i have meet are very warm and welcoming. the only thing is that the way the campus is laid out i dont think they tend to have that many parties…but there are so many other things you can do around that area that would make up for it. i mean i was in chicago for over a month this summer and i didnt even have enough time to do all i wanted to do. so idk. maybe u should try to do like an overnight or schedule an interview to see how it is really like first hand…

Actually, I’ve heard the exact opposite about UChicago. It’s very rigorous in academics, and the intense Core means bags upon bags under the eyes of every student. It was also given the slogan “Where fun goes to die” by its students, so I don’t know.

I’d say that Northwestern is more like Brown than anything else. Regardless, Chicago [the city] is an amazing city, so I’m sure it would still be an awesome experience!

Yeah, I thought my interview was a little weird.
She didn’t ask me much about myself at all, just things I wanted to know about Brown.
The interview was mostly about her experience at Brown and how I would fit in at Brown.

i had mine too! it was great, but brief. i could have easily talked about Brown all night.

There’s no way I could survive the Core at Chicago :-/

I just had an amazing interview! I was pleasantly surprised the way things wound up. It was pretty much 50-50 talking wise between myself and my interviewer! He asked a lot about myself and how I feel I would fair at Brown and shared some of his own experiences in response to my predictions. We had such a good and relaxed conversation and this interview definitely dismissed any doubts I had about applying ED! I’m so excited for December 15th <3333

Anyone notice the link in post #818? It includes a countdown, along with little messages. Once, I think it even mentioned an admissions person’s name, although I didn’t recognize the name, as in “XXXXX is reading your application right now”. Eeks!

It mentions Josiah S. Carberry ([Josiah S. Carberry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Josiah S. Carberry - Wikipedia)). He’s a fictional professor at Brown.

How clever of them! I was actually hoping I’d catch the name again, since I only very quickly saw the name. Did you know that ruse, or did you look him up? I’m not a trivia buff, but I’m sure my DS knew that. Thanks.

Josiah Carberry, the professor of Psychoceramics, is a pretty well-known Brown tradition. ;)

He’s the real reason why I want to attend Brown, actually.
You know, it’s a real shame that the tour guides don’t bring him up when they talk about different traditions. =</p>

My tour guide mentioned him!!! Along with Tetris on the SciLi and the VWG. (

Hey DC, remember how we’re bringing back Tetris if we get to Brown? Or rather…Blocks? +P

Hi There,
I am hoping you guys can give me some advice. My daughter applied ED to Brown and now is immobilized until she gets a rejection or acceptance letter. She goes to a suburban high school in the midwest,ACT 31, lots of ECs as well as 4 years of Varsity field hocky. Lots of volunteer work, etc. My issue is that time is slipping away and other schools are interested and she will not apply, such as the above mention Chicago schools. I don’t want to be a downer but I think her chances of getting into Brown are slim. How do I motivate her to get serious about other schools? We visited Brown this fall and she fell in love due to the art, english, math opportunities.
Thanks loads

My sister, who went to Smith College in Mass., not Brown, got to play tetris on the science library back in like 2001 or whenever it was. She said it was difficult, but a great experience =)
