Brown 2022 Waitlist

Anyone else waitlisted? Not really sure how to feel. I think the Class of 2022 is exceptionally competitive and that we would’ve gotten in any other year. Oh well lol

Could someone post their waitlist letter, just to make sure we all got the same thing?

I kinda feel that there is no clear difference between those who are accepted and waitlisted. Waitlist exists, to some extent, because colleges are not able to admit all qualified students. For applicants apart from the bunch of obvious achievers, who gets the offer and who gets the waitlist could be a simple coin toss a lot of times…

@Amber333
Here is the text of my waitlist letter:

The Board of Admission has completed its review of your application and has voted to place your name on our Wait List. If you wish further consideration of your application during our Wait List deliberations, please respond in your Brown Account Portal by May 1 if you have not already done so. The Board will then automatically consider your application for any position that becomes available. If the Board votes to offer you admission from our Wait List, you will be notified by mail; you should not, however, expect notification prior to May 15, and we will conclude our Wait List process by June 30.

This year, Brown received more than 35,000 applications for the 1,665 positions available in the Class of 2022. We have offered admission to a small percentage of our applicants but not so many, we believe, as to make it impossible for us to admit some applicants from the Wait List. Please note: If you applied to the Program in Liberal Medical Education, all spaces have already been filled.

As disappointing as this decision may be for you, you should know we are impressed by your abilities and achievements and we sincerely hope that you will maintain your interest in Brown. The members of the Board of Admission believe that you have special qualities to offer to the Class of 2022, and so it is disheartening that we are unable to recognize your accomplishments more fully at this time. You may be sure that even if only one student can be selected from our Wait List, your application will be thoroughly reviewed.

Sincerely,

Logan Powell
Dean of Admission

i got waitlisted and today my guidance counselor told me that she got a call from my admissions officer and she said that she loved my application and that it was excellent, and that i should definitely stay on the waitlist…but like…if it was that good why didn’t they accept me in the first place lol ;(

Yeah i’m happy to have been waitlisted! I also think considering the amazingly large number of applicants across the board at top schools, many of them will have to use their waitlist more than in past years, simply because those accepted likely applied to so many other great schools! But obviously we will see!

How many people get voted to be put on the waitlist? and how many people got accepted this year?

My mom’s friend is a Brown Admissions officer and she said that this year being put on the Brown waitlist was a kind rejection. There is no point in getting our hopes up and constantly refreshing our emails until June. I declined the offer and moved on.

The odds of getting off the waitlist are so low that you are honestly just setting yourself up for rejection by waiting.

I can tell you the number from last year. See

It is not too bad. Honestly, I think more will be pulled from the wait list this year.

@nrtlax33 the 79 students admitted were both transfer students and wait list students. The numbers are extremely low

I agree with Jane I think that includes transfer students too

I don’t think so, Read https://news.brown.edu/articles/2017/09/firstyear carefully –

The University admitted 2,801 students (8.6 percent), yielding a matriculating class of 1,643. (The addition of nine incoming Resuming Undergraduate Education students and 67 transfers makes for the total of 1,719 first-year students.)

It looks to me that transfers and RUEs are in addition to those 2801 students?? Please correct me if you see it differently. Actually @iwannabe_Brown was pulled from the wait list. See his post for how to get off wait list. It works!!!

You could be right but those are last year’s statistics which had an entirely different pool of applicants. As the OP said, the Class of 2022 is exceptionally competitive and we could’ve gotten in any other year. In the past they have accepted between 0 and 196 and the number every year has been different. They expect 900-1000 students to accept the waitlist position so the chances are really low.

You’re right.

Where are you all thinking of going? I got into Duke last night and have a great financial option with the University of South Carolina Honors College!! I think that I’m going to take my name off the waitlist now. Brown was a literal dream but so is Duke, and I love USC Honors. This admissions season has been a lil rough, ngl, but I’m sure we all have some great options!!!

Whenever you see someone posting “YYY full ride or Brown”, if you encourage the person to go somewhere else, more space would be opened up !! ;

Going to Brown would be too expensive. I’m deciding between Northwestern, UCLA, and Berkeley.

I agree, a lot of people are complaining about the amount of financial aid offered. I read that waitlist students aren’t offered financial aid at all/ are offered less aid, is that true?

THEY DONT OFFER FINANCIAL AID TO WAITLIST STUDENTS!!!

I initially thought that Brown would go to the waitlist this year but realized that they accepted more studentse than usual in the early round - 737. Since their target class size is 1665, they’d need 918 students from the regular decisions to matriculate. That’s a 50.2% yield and Brown’s is typically 60% and has never been below that since 1998.

So yeah, Brown is definitely not using the waitlist which is a total bummer. :frowning:

@snaccbrown I just declined my waitlist offer. No point in getting my hopes up. :frowning:

Boston University here I come!!!
