Brown a target school?

Hey all,

I'm asking this since I saw Brown ranked as Tier 2 for IB. But is this tier 2 school considered a "target school" and which BB's recruit there?

Not as good as Dartmouth and Columbia. However, Brown students lean towards law, and that may be the reason why it’s not as well represented on WS (similar to how Yale is no where near as well represented as Princeton on WS).

So I assume there’s less competition for the marginal, but still existent, on-campus recruiting?

Competition is just as fierce because fewer employers recruit on campus.

I agree with IvyPBear, the competition is really fierce.

yes, it is a target school, at least according to David Viniar, goldman CFO, when he spoke at a recruiting session last december. on-campus recruiting from GS, MS, BAML, Barclays, and many others. plenty of interview opportunities if you have top grades and a passionate interest in finance, so describing recruiting as “marginal” is ludicrous.

also, “Tier 2” = nonsense.

furthermore, “fierce” competition? are you kidding me? i challenge you to name a school that isn’t subject to “fierce” competition for BB internships.

“furthermore, “fierce” competition? are you kidding me? i challenge you to name a school that isn’t subject to “fierce” competition for BB internships.”

Why so defensive? I never said that other schools aren’t fierce. I simply stated that competition for PE, hedge fund, IB, consulting jobs is as fierce as the competition at other schools. And, Brown is tier 2, with HWP on the top tier.

IvyPBear, Brown definitely does not have “fierce” competition. A small portion/percentage of students want to go into finance when compared with its peer institutions. Also most of the big names recruit there so if someone was concerned about whether I should go to Brown vs. peer institution I would attend what ever school you’ll do the best at and be the happiest at.

In light of IvyPBear’s recent comment, I have a caveat to add: top Brown grads tend to end up at GS/MS/Bain more than Blackstone. Buyer beware!
