I’m considering applying for transfer admission to Brown. Well, to be frank, I’m really debating sending the $50 or $60 because I need money, haha.

Anyway, what’re the lowest SAT scores that’ve been granted admission? I mean, obviously there’s a myriad of things that can negate, if you will, a low score in the eyes of a counselor. I’m just curious, though.

If you did have a low score, what do you think outweighed it? Bc for the most part, I consider myself a rather colorful applicant, otherwise.

while I was at Brown this summer, I met with the admissions director and he told me that they look for students to have about a 690 or 700 on each part. However, my RA got about 1050 or 1100 on hers and still got in.

anyhting is possible with recruited athletes as long as the coach has another recruit coming in who got a perfect score in order to balance the terrible score out. just remember for every supported athlete that gets in and dosen't really deserve to their is another supported athlete who could have gotten in anyway but the coach made sure in order to keep his average stats in line.

"Does Brown just not care as much about the scores as other schools do?"

Doubt that. If it were true, then the average SAT score would not be 1390. IT probably is a combination of having some serious performers drawn by the theater department. For these people, qualifications have much more to do with their talent than with traditional measures of academic ability. Add in some artists drawn by the assocation with RISD, and for whom SATs are equally meaningless, plus the usual Ivy mix of athletes and legacies, and you get Brown's SAT distribution. Brown is also far more forthcoming than most places about publishing its applied/admitted/enrolled SAT statistics, so one can see just how many "low" SAT applicants are admitted. If you look at these numbers you do see some low SAT admits, but he odds on admission are MUCH higher for the 750 and up crowd.

Yeah, afan, I'd like to see that breakdown. I'd actually, even as a current student, would be interested in the break down between athletes and nonatheletes. I can tell you from experience, everyone here is very bright and belongs here, but it's clear that the athletes get a good 100point pad on the SATs, sometimes better.

listen, its all relative, i got into chicago, which has really high sat score and got into rice, mad high sat scores, but i probably wouldn't have gotten into brown, it's reallllly hard,
