So, as of now, Brown is my first choice by MILES. I recently read here that Brown does not do merit aid. Is this true? So what type of help do you get from them if any? How much does the usual get?

Also, I'm going to be a junior next year. Any scholarships or whatever that I can apply to PLEASE list them here. Thanks.

None of the Ivy league schools give merit aid, nor do many other of the very selective schools (eg. Stanford & MIT). They do give financial aid that covers 100% of need. But remember, need is defined by the school, not you. And, that need will be filled by some combination of workstudy, loans and grants. So, you could end up with all loans or all grants or anywhere in between. Both you and your parents should read the book 'Paying for college without going broke' so that you understand how institutional merit and fiancial aid, as well as outside scholarships work. Otherwise you may find yourself accepted to your dream school but unable to attend due to financial reasons.

Also realize that Brown tends to give less financial aid than some of the other schools with larger endowments. There is no usual for financial aid, it depends on your financial situation and how much a school wants you to attend. There are several threads on the parent's board about aid that you should search and read. Good luck, this is an excellent time to begin understanding the financial part of applying to schools.

financial aid is pretty much identical across the ivy league, stanford, and mit

dcircle,
That wasn't our experience with 4 Ivies this year, all of which are within 1k of each other for COA. One said we had zero need, another gave about 10k in workstudy, loans and grants, and two others each gave about 20k in workstudy and grants. I never would have expected such at difference either, although I know that some asked for extra information on the Profile.

Thanks to those who replied! I'll deff look into the books and discussions you have reccomended entomom, thanks.

And by the way, I just read my post over and it sounds like I'm pretty sure I'll get into Brown. I didn't want it to come across as arrogant at all. I hope, Hope, HOPE to get in and I'm going to work my tail off to try to get in. So yeah...just wanted to clear that up.

Apply to a few ivy leagues...i believe that brown has a policy where it will match the fin aid offers at other ivies. i wish i had now... they also have some new program where a number of the neediest students offered acceptance have the loan portion of their fin aid package replaced with endowed funds.
