Thank you, modestmelody. It needed to be said. But now let's all stop feeding the troll and move along our merry way...

I have NEVER said or implied any of those things; you are being silly and sophomoric, Mr or Ms "modestmelody".

Furthermore, you strike me "in my experience" as a rather brittle and angry young person, not at all typical of the many Brunonians I have known - including my father and younger brother. And I have spent far more time in Providence than you have, kid.

You really need to get a grip.

Byerly, I am trying to understand your posts. I am a parent of a Brown freshman, who is happy with his school. Most of his friends are happy with their choices and when I hear good things coming out of all of these schools, whether Ivy or State University, I am thrilled for those involved. I look at your posts-you go on Brown, Stanford, Duke, etc. etc. and just have something negative to say. What is the point you are trying to make? Are you the "Debbie Downer of CC"? I am not being facetious-I am really trying to understand your points? Are you just trying to spark some lively conversation? Really, why must you go on all these college websites and just be a bummer? I go on to learn, to share and to revel in all the accomplishments and positive vibes-every time I see your posts now, I know it is something negative. I just don't get it and I am trying to understand why you do it. Please explain. And I reallly am not being judgemental and sarcastic but you have to see from some of the other posts that people do not enjoy your bashing but you continue to do it.

Hey Audi, not to go off-topic, but how's your son enjoying Five Towns? I have a friend who wants to go their for music or possibly music education out of Nassau and I'd love ot hear about someone's experience there.

Byerly, I clearly don't have to post anymore on the subject since I said what I had to say and it appears that many people here are getting the same impression about your posting habits. Though I may need to get a grip, you certainly need to take a step back and wonder if your posts can be seen in a very different light than you intend them to be (or how you perceive them to be).

Audi - you are simple wrong.

My focus is on accurate admissions information for any and all schools; and for admissions reform - particularly for the elimination of such exploitative devices as early admissions programs of every stripe.

I have never - EVER - urged anyone to apply - or not to apply - to school X or school Y, and in that sense am no cheerleader and do not major in the "positive vibes" you evidently like to see, but prefer to focus on accurate information.

If the truth bothers "positive vibe only" folks, well then that's your problem. I receive many PM messages from people seeking accurate data rather than the party line.

I have never - EVER - "bashed" any school... and certainly not Brown, with which I have many family connections.

Byerly you are a nit picker. I did not go to Harvard, but I can recognize a nit picker when I see one.

There was no need for you to comment on this thead, except you love to pick nits. Of course, you could have posted a new thread with your key bits of information if you wanted to. Posting them here was snotty.

Here's what's so funny. You give a really unfavorable impression of an excellent school because you remind everyone of those insufferable prigs they knew in HS who went to Harvard (even though plenty of nice and non-nit-picky people go to Harvard too).

Please, keep right on going. You are a great advertisement for Brown!

I won't go tit for tat with you in ad hominem attacks, Mom - or say who you remind me of.

Byerly, what is your area of expertise? Why would I assume that you report "accurate admissions info"? And why do you only go on select school's CC websites with this information-why not every school that offers ED for that matter? And what does football or Nobel Prize Winners (who you had to pt. out on a Brown website got his PhD at Harvard) have to do with admission policies? You seem to selectively go on certain school's sites here to "rebel rouse" or "negative vibe". I see no purpose in that. People who are on this site generally are students in the school or are interested or have some connection with the school-alum, parent of student.....what is your point? Do you want me to shake my finger at the Brown admissions people and tell them that they are doing something wrong?? Do you want me to take my Son out of school because his admission possibly was unfair or unjust to you? You need a chill pill big time!
Modest, as an aside, my older son went to U Del as a psych major, but music has always been his passion. He came home on his first Christmas break and said he didn't want to study psych anymore and did not like what was offered at Delaware in terms of music. (He wanted to do more producing and they offered music education).Rather than have him return the following semester, we decided to let him go to a local school and see if he really wanted to pursue this. Five Towns admitted him rather quickly because he was a decent student. He is currently studying Music Business with a concentration in audio technology. While he does not find the school that challenging, he is learning and enjoying it. He has atleast, found what he wants to do with his life, and I am thrilled with the school for that. The facilities are small but apparently have some good equipment and instructors and he is able to network with NYC internships/businesses. He had looked into transferring to a more prestigious school (NYU has one of the best audio schools in the area) but he would lose too many credits in transferring. So, we have decided that he should get his degree here and possibly get a masters if he feels he needs one at another institution. It supposedly is very good for audio, performance, and a few other related departments. If your friend needs more explicit info, I would be happy to relate-just PM me.

As an elder, you should respect younger people.

(sigh) .

Thanks Audi. I was just looking for how people generally felt about it. It sounds like he's having an overall good experience there, and I think staying put for the sake of the credits is wise. My understanding is that Music, and those areas in particular, are strongly based on ability and experience. While a degree is nice and even important to have, from where does not matter as much as you have that as a credential of sorts. I hope he does well with placements and internships because that will definitely be what leads him to opportunities.

I went to a drum clinic (it was basically a concert with three very famous drummers being featured) that they held at Five Towns' out East campus (Farmingdale maybe? Bethpage? Somewhere not far from there) and the sound and show was entirely run by Five Towns students. The sound was excellently done and the show went very smooth. It was as professional as anything else. That did impress me quite a bit. Audio technology is fascinating, and I actually converse with several guitar amplifier builders personally (Doug Roccaforte, James Peters, Peter Diezel, Matt Zaite and several other well known names). If he ever was looking into something on that side of audio technology (while it's a very small segment) I'd be happy to pass along an email address.

thanks so much Modest. He is definitely learning the technical aspect of audio and Five Towns apparently has terrific equipment. In fact, when looking to possibly transfer, after having spoken to several faculty members from other colleges like Emerson and NYU, he was told that Five Towns has some of the best and most up to date equipment out there. There is one room that has something like several million dollars invested in it. This is a big reason why he chose to stay. And I think with this field, it is all about networking and making your connections. In addition, my son DJ's all over the LI with several companies and he didn't want to give that up. If your friend needs any specific info, have him PM me and I will pass him onto my son.
