Brown and school spirit

I was just told that brown doesn’t really have any school spirit in terms of sports and that it is not very social (I was told that people tend to hang out in small groups and are social with maybe one or two people typically but Greek life isn’t big). Is this true?

Brown has frats, parties, football games etc. It is a good choice for kids who don’t want to be forced into group activities, but it has all of the standard college activities for the kids that want them. There is an entire section of campus where the frat houses are located… so it’s easy to avoid if you’re not interested, but obviously, the kids who are can congregate there.

I agree with @blossom above that yes, while Brown has many opportunities to become involved with the school community, how that involvement looks is up to you, as at any college. One of the reasons that I chose Brown to attend this year was because students are overwhelmingly collaborative, and unlike many other similar schools, students don’t feel the pressure of achieving grades outweighing their personal interests or the desire to take classes in fields totally unrelated to your concentration. You only go to college once, so when else will you have the opportunity to take that course on memes?

Hope this helps! Good luck with admissions!

It’s all up to u tbh. I’ve been having a good time so far ¯_(ツ)_/ you choose what you want to do and what you don’t.

I asked my D and she said all of that is untrue except for Greek life not being that big. It isn’t that big at Brown … not on the order of Cornell or Dartmouth for sure. Brown is lovely in every aspect, and she has enjoyed a great social life thus far. If you can’t find your tribe on College Hill, it’s because you’re not making any kind of effort.
