Does Brown require the Common App art supplement or an art supplement of their own (which i don’t know if they even have…) ? help me please, deadline’s approaching!

On the Requirements Grid on the Common App website it says they don't require it (the column isn't checked).

So would it be okay to mail in a CD of art work?

It would be fine to mail in a portfolio and here is what Brown says:

Portfolio/Supplementary Material Submission Guidelines

Students who have achieved unusual distinction in some area (music, science, creative writing, art, photography, etc.) may submit examples of their best work for the Board's consideration. Music tapes/compact discs and art slides are forwarded to the respective departments for review while samples of creative writing and videos are reviewed by the Board of Admission only if time permits. While the Board accepts such supplementary materials for review, history has shown that submissions rarely affect admission decisions. You should not feel obliged to submit to the Board anything in addition to the required credentials.

Note that they say ART SLIDES. I don't think they are accepting CDs at this point, though someone in another thread said a person in admissions said CD was good. The art department says it wants slides. Do slides.

Two years ago my D submitted a sheet of slides as an art supplement to her applications and she is a soph at Brown, and a Visual Art concentrator. She loves the department. I'm just saying... :)

Brown says "about ten art prints" somewhere else on their site, which were what I sent in. They don't take CDs, only slides and art prints (which are probably photographic, but since not every applicant has access to photographic-paper printing, I decided that it would be fine to just use ten full-page plain-paper prints).

ah, good thing I didnt mail that CD yet. so there's no supplement you have to fill out; just send in the slides/printouts?

Gosh, I hope your plain paper prints do justice to your hard work...
I am not sure if there is a supplement to fill out. When my D did her app, it was not the Common App, yet. I kind of remember there is a supplement in the common app?? I would suggest that you include a list of titles, media, sizes, etc. Put your name and SS# on the sheet of slides and on the title page.

Do the supplementary materials have to be received or just postmarked by January 1 for RD apps?

Well the Common App and the Common App supplement have to be postmarked by January 1st, so I'd assume it's the same case for other materials.

well if I were to use photographic paper could I put all ten on a page, or two to a page, or something like that...

Why would you want to put so many on one page? They would be very hard to read that way. You want each image to stand on its own. It can end up being expensive, but it is your future...

hi! Do you remember what address you submitted the brown art supplement to?
