Hey guys what do you think would help an applicant if him or her had low test scores for brown or any other ivy league school. What do you think would make them shine out. Awards, essays, ecs, etc.

I think your essay (including your writing supplement specifically for Brown) will help you the most. Make sure you’re involved in ECs that are both unique and close to your heart, not to sound cliched…
I think awards would also be helpful, but keep in mind that A BUNCH of kids applying to Brown will have tons of awards, especially academic ones, so I suppose you should shoot for winning awards in “unique contests” (if that makes any sense). But then again, I’m NO expert AT ALL, I’m just trying to help. Anyone else please correct me if you think I’m wrong.
Good luck with everything and don’t give up hope, my SAT’s really low too so I feel for you :)

Define unique?

Well, you know how most kids applying to Brown may have succeeded in academic-type things, of course (National Merit, writing contests) or have received music and art awards–by art I’m referring to painting, drawing, anything like that. But possibly a “unique” award would be…winning a short film/video contest? I suppose not too many applicants win those, but I could be wrong. Or winning an award/recognition for starting up a kind of charity/community service club at your school or within your local community? But of course, it would have to be for a cause that you’re truly passionate about, you know? Not necessarily just doing it for college… I’m not saying that YOU’RE doing that, but I’m just letting you know that adcoms can see right through “phony activities”. Hope this helps!

I’m applying :D
