Brown Class of 2018 Early Decision Applicants

… What’s HYPS?

Kiwi: too late probs. why do you want to?

@kiwisarecool, scratches head Did I? Did I really?
.
I’m not sure. Maybe, I guess. I mean, Yale decisions are weird and will mostly depend on stuff like, I dunno, something new-ish. They don’t need every student to be one of those super smart and lots of extra curricular types, y’aknow.

Er. The one where you ask if we were HYPS level?..

@Kiwisarecool: Well…I received Top in Hong Kong Cambridge International Examinations Visual Arts and Design award but…I don’t know whether that counts and I don’t think it’ll affect much of the admission officer’s decision as I got a really bad SAT score so…I’m quite sure I’ll either get rejected or deferred no matter what.

Guys, is there anything AT ALL to do before the decisions come out? I’m just rolling around in bed looking at Brown-related things and doing school stuff without really concentrating. Help!

Sorry for the late response, but thanks for the congratulations you all gave me for my acceptance!

@abelgkb

Mine was. The head counselor at my school said that means that they want to accept you but want to make sure you are still getting good grades. Almost cried of happiness when she said that, but I dont think shes right. A girl can dream though lol

im am freaking out about this. Someone is going to judge my life in a matter of 5 minutes and tell me if I am good enough. I am taking the SAT on saturday for my regular schools. I probably won’t get into Brown, but I’m trying to be optimistic. I have an amazing essay, a 4.0, a bunch of extremely dedicated extracurriculars, a pretty good interview. All these pieces of the puzzle except my current ACT of 30 and SAT of 2020 are the weights that are holding me back. I have 760 and 730 for subject tests, but one of the most important aspects are on the lower end of the 25th percentile. I am a diver and hope to continue it in college. kids with all these and SAT scores in the 2300s are still getting denied, what makes me think that I can get in over them. But then again it is a huge gamble and its anyones game. Thats what freaks me out, because I know that I shouldn’t get in but there is that thought in my mind that I could and clinging on to it is driving me crazy

@dancingwriter, i can’t give you any advice because I’m experiencing the exact same thing LOL plus i also have finals

I received a scholarship for this international foreign exchange program so I guess that counts

like I said @kiwisarecool all my other stuff is outstanding its just My ACT/SAT are the only piece really not extraordinary, i just hope they read my app holistically.

without giving away my identity i have a couple of international and national awards

my school doesn’t rank, but i’m pretty sure I’m 5 of 188.

just to put things in perspective, I recall a senior poster (either intparent or northstarmom) saying on an old thread that (a large majority of) the real geniuses/shoe-ins/reincarnations-of-Jesus with TOP stats don’t waste their time farting around on college confidential.

not comforting to think about, but I’m 99.9% sure that there’s some truth to it

LOL :p

the original poster said majority, not all LOL

I guess she meant that, although you can find some people with copious science awards on CC, it is rare to find intel/siemens semifinalists/winners posting chance threads left and right.

Why does everyone think that ACT/SAT/GPA matter soooo much…it is who you are as a person. And if they see that you are a good person you’ll be accepted.

And what day do decisions come out? 12th or 13th?
-Duke-

12th at 5pm Eastern.

You don’t have to be THE BEST to get in at Brown, that’s what really distinguishes it from other Ivy Leagues(you still have to be really good of course haha). Brown seems to prefer individuals who are self motivated and truly love what they excel at. They may be more limited in scope, but they know what they want and will accomplish it. This is compared to the students of upper level Ivy leagues, who may do 10 things but don’t truly love any of them; they are simply inflated items for resumes.
