Brown Class of 2018 Regular Decision Applicants

@redbluegoldgreen: you do not need to request one. They do their best to give out interviews, but not every applicant will get one. It’s dependent on the number of alumni interviewers in your geographic region. There is no harm to your application if you don’t get an interview - they’re as much for you to learn more about Brown as for Brown to learn about you.

For interview info, the Brown forum’s thread here is one of the most comprehensive.

for your why brown essays did you guys mainly focus on brown or include bits about yourself as well? I wrote mine and it turned out to be over 500 words 00 im going to be writing essays through christmas TT

The more I learn about Brown the more I love it

I have a question… For the supplement that asks: “Tell us where you have lived - and for how long - since you were born; whether you’ve always lived in the same place, or perhaps in a variety of places. (100 word limit)”… Do they expect a literal response or something metaphorical?

lubnakabir, I visited Brown over the summer and the admissions officer running the information session said that the question was intended to be literal when it was written!

Did any of you get a “Thank you for applying to Brown email” and a later email from the admissions committee saying they were pleased that you applied to Brown?

My D did not answer in the literal, but rather from her life perspective. She discussed where she “lives” in her mind, thoughts, beliefs and how that has evolved.

@lubnakabir
Elerange is right too I think. I have also heard that it is meant to be literal and the reason for the question is to find out the life story and journey of many of the applicants because some might have different journeys than others. Even if you have not traveled alot and have simply grown up in the same city you have been born, I would just find a creative way of talking about that.

@picktails
Although I don’t think that was the purpose, It definitely seems like a cool way of answering the question! I doubt it will cause any problems for your D.

Is it grammatically correct to say “I was born and raised in xxxx for 17 years” or “I was born in and raised in xxx for 17 years”? Should I spell out 17?

Just say I was born and raised in xxx. Your reader should already know it is about 17 years.

Hey guys, I would like to send in a recommendation letter from my research mentor. However, I don’t see a “Other Recommender” section under Assign Recommenders on the Common App like with other schools. Does Brown allow additional recommendation letters besides those of teachers, and if so, how should I send them? Thank you!

i was told to have my research mentor email the letter directly to the admissions office.

i submitted my application to brown on the 27th and havent received any confirmation yet. should i be worried, or more patient?

I submitted mine around mid December and nothing here either.

I haven’t received anything wither but I wouldn’t worry as long as there are green checking marks at the commonapp dashboard. They are receiving tenthousands of applications. :D

I submitted the Common App on 11/30, the Brown supplement on 12/22, and got a confirmation email from admissions on 12/23. I wouldn’t worry about it, especially if you applied closer to the 1/1 deadline because they probably have a lot of applications to sort through!

I should probably start checking my email!

…Aaaand nothing. I submitted mine on the 27th as well, so don’t worry about it. It probably takes some time to process all the applications.

It’ll take some time. Brown’s offices were closed on Thursday and Friday as there was a huge winter storm in RI, so they haven’t really had time to process anything. Don’t contact them unless you haven’t heard anything by 1/20 or so.

I only just got my confirmation today. Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten anything!

Same goes for any other school you’re applying to
