Brown Class of 2019 Early Decision Applicants

Political science.

@laz1997 what major did you choose? Also why do you think they asked for the grades? Sorry for all the questions haha I don’t know anyone else that applied ED @Condensed711 radness! I applied for history, but I almost put poli sci!

they also called my school for grades.
do you guys know if the financial aid package is given with the acceptence? or after?

Someone before said they thought they asked for everyone’s grades but I’m not sure how it works. @Condensed711 - did they call for your first term grades?

Hey guys! Just joined. I was a questbridge match finalist, but was unfortunately not matched to the school. Brown has been my dream school now for forever, and I contacted them asking to apply ED and they are letting me! Just wanna say good luck to everyone! Can’t wait for Dec 11.

@runcupcakerun the following is from a blog by Brown Admissions (http://blogs.brown.edu/admissions/2010/11/04/if-youve-applied-early-decision/):

I don’t know if you can answer this, but why does Brown call certain people’s guidance counselors to ask for progress reports? Why not everyone?

Some schools automatically provide first quarter/marking period grades, and others do not. We read every application carefully and review many pieces of information when making admission decisions.

My daughter’s school sent in 1st quarter grades because we were notified that they had not received them.

Yeah, my school counselor told me that they don’t ask everyone, so I was mostly just wondering if that was true

Anyway, as admission director Miller mentioned on brown herald, “If we pull (recruited athletes) out, the admit rates for early and regular decision are very similar.” (<a href=“U. sees second-largest early decision pool - The Brown Daily Herald”>U. sees second-largest early decision pool - The Brown Daily Herald)

So let’s just put our hopes down… and wait another week. Good luck everyone!!!

@runcupcakerun‌ I love history! So much in fact that I’m taking three history classes this year. :))
@lax1997, by my knowledge, no. If they did, my counselor may have handled that.

I’m curious to hear what everyone responds to @runcupcakerun‌’s question about prospective major.

I indicated Political Science and Spanish.

Visual art and education studies, here. :)

I put environmental science and political science, but I’m also interested in public health. Environmental science is definitely my passion though

I gladly put Economics and Math. Hoping to specially concentrate in “Applied Math: Economics.” Such a wonderful and successful program at Brown :D

1st Choice: History
2nd Choice: Philosophy

I put biology and psychology.

Math, followed by physics.

But at this point I’m really leaning more toward physics because of the career options and impact of research.

1st choice: Public Policy and American Institutions
2nd Choice: Modern Culture and Media

1st choice: Biochemistry
2nd choice: English

Also here’s a really interesting video about what happens after you click submit. It’s done by two Brown admissions officers, and it really gives some insight into what goes on. It is a bit lengthy, 22mins so watch it if you have the time.

@tman1005 I chose applied mathematics too… but my second choice is statistics.

@leahleah My first “choice” was economics, and the second was math. I actually didn’t put applied math, cause I really needed the math supplement to explain what I’m doing in with applied math and economics. I’m doing an independent study in Calculus Based-Economics right now, and the supplement let me talk a lot about that

They will probably consider me in the context of the prospective econ/social science majors, but who knows?
