Brown Class of 2019 Wait List

Hey guys, since I haven’t seen a discussion about this yet, I thought it would be great to start one. Feel free to comment with your stats or anything else.

I got waitlisted for Computer Science

ACT: 33C- 34E 35M 32R 30S
IGCSE 9th Grade: AABBBBCC
IGCSE 10th Grade: AAAAAAA*B
IB: Semester 1- 37/42, Semester 2- 40/42, Semester 3- 42/42
Predicted IB 43/45
Great ECs, Essays and Interview

How and if Brown picks students off of the WL is primarily a function of how many accepts will take Brown’s offer. Discussing stats and what not may not be productive

Odds are I’ve already answered every follow up question in the last 8 years too: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/search?Page=p1&adv=1&search=waitlist&title=&author=i_wanna_be_Brown&cat=23&tags=&within=1+day&date=

I was just wondering if anyone has called to see if they are definitely going to use their waitlist this year? Despite what Miller said earlier about expecting to use the waitlist, they wouldn’t really know until about right now.

Also, in my portal, the bar which said “committed to the waitlist” or whatever is now gone and it just says “admissions decisions currently not available”. Is this the same for everyone else?

In past years College Confidential had a little community of fellow waitlistees which seemed to keep people from going crazy with waiting, so I thought it might be nice to do the same this year as well, even though nothing important can really be discussed or changed at this point.

I called admissions on Tuesday, and they said that they didn’t know yet. On the bright side, they’ll call those admitted off of the waitlist (if some indeed are) instead of sending notifications by mail.

Okay! I guess I’ll call later today or tomorrow to see if they know anything new. We can take turns and keep this page updated. And good word about the calling.

@emthmk My portal changed as well, and I know it said “commited to browns waitlist” just yesterday because Ive been checking it compulsively

I feel like they’ll have to admit some off the waitlist this year…or I hope, I guess! I’m definitely going to be obessively checking my phone for the next few weeks!!

Last year someone found out on the 7th (through a call to their counselor); I hope it’s as early this year! In past years they’ve been very secretive and mysterious about it-- even resorting to giving different people different information-- so I don’t really trust any single source lol.

I just called admissions-- they said that they were planning on using the waitlist this year and they would be releasing decisions about it soon! Not very important information but at least one person is saying that they are definitely using the waitlist this year!

We should here shortly from the Brown Daily Herald regarding the yield of the class of 2019. My guess would be this information will be released on the 9th May, as it has been posted this day for the previous two years. From this, you can hazard a guess as to how small/large the waitlist will be. My gut feeling is that the waitlist will be used and this is confirmed by the post of @emthmk.

Sources of Previous Two Years:

http://www.browndailyherald.com/2014/05/09/yield-rate-holds-steady-59-9-percent/ [CLASS OF 2018 YIELD]

Furthermore, I would guess that the first wave of waitlist decisions will be released sometime between 9th and 19th May but that is purely speculation. Let’s try and keep this page going so we can better estimate when we will receive a decision … I’m sure we all want a bit of closure now, be it Brown or university #2.

Did anyone notice a change in their portal ? My friend’s portal has removed the box of committed to waitlist. Anyone else noticing the same thing ? Is it good or bad ?

@vanshmurad uh we just wrote up above that the same had happened to everyone. It doesn’t mean anything, theyre probably just making decisions now.

oh my bad sorry I didnt read it.

I’m so glad this thread is finally active!
The only information I’ve gotten since getting put on the list is that updates/letters to admissions should preferably be uploaded directly to our application summary page, not sent directly to regional officers or the main office.

Anyone heard?

@ballet19 how do you know this? I sent it to my regional rep who never got back to me

Yeah where did you hear that it should be uploaded? I sent my letter to my rep and he wrote right back.

@justwaitingtoo and @SaphireNY - I got the same email from admissions. It won’t make a difference either way - email is perfectly acceptable too. Also, don’t worry if they never got back to you - as long as you sent an email to the right address, I can guarantee you they’ve read your email carefully.
