Brown Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

How many people do you think applied this year after the news article on last years statistics being so large?

what news article @brownbrownbrown

@actssmart somebody correct me if I’m wrong but it’s probably this article http://www.browndailyherald.com/2014/12/11/20-percent-early-decision-applicants-offered-admission/

@rotciv Ahhhhh thanks. So are people wondering if because they accepted 20% last year that there will be more applicants applying hoping for that same 20%?

@brownbrownbrown I guess it will be less than the last two years, since the PLME become binding to Brown college.

The early application pool for this year is about the same as last year (3000).

Hopefully they still accept 20% or more!
@actssmart

Anyone here apply as a public health or health and human bio major? Did anyone receive an email from Brown if you applied to these majors?

@wifigirl Yea!!! Hopefully they still can accept 20% or more! I apply as applied math & economics concentration.

@wifigirl I applied in a Public Health concentration and have not been emailed anything from Brown…

Hopefully my interest in Classics could set me apart? lol fingers crossed

glad i’m not the only one! @rlathd2

My friend applied to Northwestern early and their ED acceptance rate is 36%! Imagine if Brown’s was the same haha @Han456

@actssmart I feel ya! My class is so competitive. With my gpa, in last years graduating class at my school, I would’ve been ranked 7th. This year? I’m ranked 58th, bumping me out of the top 10% of the class despite having a high GPA. Everyone is within hundredths of each other, and it’s all really close. Scary stuff. Best of luck!

@wifigirl OMG… two of my friends also apply ED there. I’m going to tell them this news! Yea, back to the summer. I was deciding which one to apply ED among Brown, UPenn and Northwestern. But now, I absolutely fall in love with Brown. Finger crosses.

You all seem like such cool, interesting people! I hope that we all get in so we can meet each other and start sharing our cool, interesting things.

@wifigirl I applied to be either a Public Health or Cognitive Science concentrator and I have not received any emails re programs at Brown. I’m really interested in food so I’d love to steer either concentration in the direction of how nutrition and related health issues have both a psychological and sociological impact on society.

Haha if any of you want to not think about college things and look at pictures of food…you should check out www.yestoyummy.com, my food blog! It’s my favorite extracurricular activity

@QueenOfCats WOW! Your blog is amazing! I like your Pumpkin Roulade Cake. I really wish I could have chance to meet you, so I can enjoy many food. Haha, just kidding. Good luck with your application.

@Han456 Yes same- I was considering b/t NU and Brown (i’m from Chicago) but I just fell in love with Brown’s environment. NU is definitely my second choice though. I hope your friends get in! Its a gorgeous school.

@Han456 Awwww thank you! Sharing food with others is honestly what makes me the happiest so I can guarantee that I will be cooking and baking for everyone I meet if I go to Brown.

Lol I made brownies today and I am tempted to leave them on a plate outside as an offering to the universe. Unfortunately, I think squirrels would eat them and squirrels are not admissions officers. I did write my Why Brown? essay on brownies in Brown’s open curriculum though! :stuck_out_tongue:

@QueenOfCats Cute blog (i’m the worst cook ik tbh). I’m just generally interested in OBGYN healthcare disparities in Eastern Africa. I think Public Health would allow me to explore and solidify my curiosity (i’m not a 100% committed though. Thank god you declare your major at the end of sophomore year!)

@wifigirl that would be such an interesting topic to investigate! I hope that wherever you wind up, whether it be Brown (fingers crossed!!!) or elsewhere, you’re able to pursue what intrigues you.
